Journal Article
Characterization of myocardial infarcts in the rat.
TL;DR: In 42 male Sprague-Dawley rats, the distribution of coronary arteries, the geometry of myocardial infarcts (MIs) and the involvement of the left ventricular papillary and trabecular muscles, after left coronary occlusion, were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of SHR hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy during prolonged beta blockade.
TL;DR: Administration of the beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agents, propranolol or timolol, from conception through the developmental stage of SHR hypertension, failed to alter either the progressive rise in arterial pressure or the development of hypertensive vascular disease and left ventricular hypertrophy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Augmentation index and central aortic stiffness in middle-aged to elderly individuals
Mitul Vyas,Joseph L. Izzo,Yves Lacourcière,J. Malcolm O. Arnold,Mark E. Dunlap,Jennifer L. Amato,Marc A. Pfeffer,Gary F. Mitchell +7 more
TL;DR: Increased AI is not a reliable surrogate for increased aortic stiffness and may be attributable to impedance matching and reduced wave reflection at the interface between the aorta and the muscular arteries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physical Activity and Prognosis in the TOPCAT Trial (Treatment of Preserved Cardiac Function Heart Failure With an Aldosterone Antagonist).
Sheila M. Hegde,Brian Claggett,Amil M. Shah,Eldrin F. Lewis,Inder S. Anand,Sanjiv J. Shah,Nancy K. Sweitzer,James C. Fang,Bertram Pitt,Marc A. Pfeffer,Scott D. Solomon +10 more
TL;DR: In patients with HF with preserved ejection fraction, both poor and intermediate self-reported PA were associated with higher risk of HF hospitalization and mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and anemia treated with Darbepoetin Alfa: the trial to reduce cardiovascular events with Aranesp therapy (TREAT) experience.
Hicham Skali,Hans-Henrik Parving,Hans-Henrik Parving,Patrick S. Parfrey,Emmanuel A. Burdmann,Eldrin F. Lewis,Peter Ivanovich,Sai Ram Keithi-Reddy,Janet B. McGill,John J.V. McMurray,Ajay K. Singh,Scott D. Solomon,Hajime Uno,Marc A. Pfeffer +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a multivariate logistic regression model was used to identify baseline predictors of stroke in 4038 patients with diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and anemia randomized to receive darbepoetin alfa or placebo.
