Clomiphene, Metformin, or Both for Infertility in the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Richard S. Legro,Huiman X. Barnhart,William D. Schlaff,Bruce R. Carr,Michael P. Diamond,Sandra Ann Carson,Michael P. Steinkampf,Christos Coutifaris,Peter G. McGovern,Nicholas A. Cataldo,Gabriella G. Gosman,John E. Nestler,Linda C. Giudice,Phyllis C. Leppert,Evan R. Myers +14 more
TL;DR: Clomiphene is superior to metformin in achieving live birth in infertile women with the polycystic ovary syndrome, although multiple birth is a complication.
Journal ArticleDOI
The insulin-related ovarian regulatory system in health and disease.
TL;DR: The Insulin-Related Ovarian Regulatory System: Implications for Therapy and Therapeutic use are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide association of polycystic ovary syndrome implicates alterations in gonadotropin secretion in European ancestry populations
M. Geoffrey Hayes,Margrit Urbanek,David A. Ehrmann,Loren L. Armstrong,Ji Young Lee,Ryan Sisk,Tugce Karaderi,Thomas M. Barber,Mark I. McCarthy,Stephen Franks,Cecilia M. Lindgren,Cecilia M. Lindgren,Corrine K. Welt,Evanthia Diamanti-Kandarakis,Dimitrios Panidis,Mark O. Goodarzi,Ricardo Azziz,Yi Zhang,Roland James,Michael Olivier,Ahmed H. Kissebah,Elisabet Stener-Victorin,Richard S. Myers,John E. Nestler,Dana A. Ohl,Nanette Santoro,William D. Schlaff,Peter J. Snyder,Michael P. Steinkampf,J. C. Trussell,Rebecca S. Usadi,Qingshang Yan,Heping Zhang +55 more
TL;DR: Common genetic susceptibility loci in European ancestry women for the National Institutes of Health PCOS phenotype are identified, which confers the highest risk for metabolic morbidities, as well as reproductive hormone levels, and implicate neuroendocrine changes in disease pathogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clomiphene, metformin, or both for infertility in the polycystic ovary syndrome
Richard S. Legro,Huiman X. Barnhart,William D. Schlaff,Bruce R. Carr,Michael P. Diamond,Sandra Ann Carson,Michael P. Steinkampf,Christos Coutifaris,Peter G. McGovern,Nicholas A. Cataldo,Gabriella G. Gosman,John E. Nestler,Linda C. Giudice,Phyllis C. Leppert,Evan R. Myers +14 more
TL;DR: Findings fail to support the view that extended-release metformin, alone or combined with clomiphene citrate, improves live birth rates in previously infertile women with PCOS, and clomine alone seems preferable as first-line treatment for these patients despite a risk of multiple births.
Journal ArticleDOI
Total testosterone assays in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: Precision and correlation with hirsutism
Richard S. Legro,William D. Schlaff,Michael P. Diamond,Christos Coutifaris,Peter R. Casson,Robert G. Brzyski,Gregory M. Christman,J. C. Trussell,Stephen A. Krawetz,Peter J. Snyder,Dana A. Ohl,Sandra Ann Carson,Michael P. Steinkampf,Bruce R. Carr,Peter G. McGovern,Nicholas A. Cataldo,Gabriella G. Gosman,John E. Nestler,Evan R. Myers,Nanette Santoro,Esther Eisenberg,M. Zhang,Heping Zhang +22 more
TL;DR: A testosterone RIA is comparable to liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/MS) assays, and there is significant variability between LC/MS assays and poor precision with all assays at low testosterone levels.
