TL;DR: Letrozole was associated with higher live-birth and ovulation rates among infertile women with the polycystic ovary syndrome and with higher incidences of fatigue and dizziness compared with clomiphene.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide association of polycystic ovary syndrome implicates alterations in gonadotropin secretion in European ancestry populations
M. Geoffrey Hayes,Margrit Urbanek,David A. Ehrmann,Loren L. Armstrong,Ji Young Lee,Ryan Sisk,Tugce Karaderi,Thomas M. Barber,Mark I. McCarthy,Stephen Franks,Cecilia M. Lindgren,Cecilia M. TL;DR: Common genetic susceptibility loci in European ancestry women for the National Institutes of Health PCOS phenotype are identified, which confers the highest risk for metabolic morbidities, as well as reproductive hormone levels, and implicate neuroendocrine changes in disease pathogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Validity of diabetes self-reports in the Women's Health Initiative: comparison with medication inventories and fasting glucose measurements.
Karen L. Margolis,Lihong Qi,Robert G. Brzyski,Denise E. Bonds,Barbara V. Howard,Sarah Kempainen,Simin Liu,Jennifer G. Robinson,Monika M. Safford,Lesley Tinker,Lawrence S. Phillips +10 more
TL;DR: In the WHI, self-reported prevalent and incident diabetes was consistent with medication inventories, and a high proportion of those with undiagnosed diabetes subsequently reported diabetes treatment, allowing self-reports of `treated diabetes' to allow use in epidemiologic studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estrogen-Plus-Progestin Use and Mammographic Density in Postmenopausal Women: Women's Health Initiative Randomized Trial

TL;DR: Use of up to 2 years of estrogen plus progestin was associated with increases in mammographic density and abnormal findings over a 1-year and 2-year period.
Journal ArticleDOI
Calcium Plus Vitamin D Supplementation and Mortality in Postmenopausal Women: The Women's Health Initiative Calcium–Vitamin D Randomized Controlled Trial
Andrea Z. LaCroix,Jane Morley Kotchen,Garnet L. Anderson,Robert G. Brzyski,Jane A. Cauley,Steven R. Cummings,Margery Gass,Karen C. Johnson,Marcia G. Ko,Joseph C. Larson,JoAnn E. Manson,Marcia L. Stefanick,Jean Wactawski-Wende +12 more
TL;DR: The findings support the possibility that these supplements may reduce mortality rates in postmenopausal women and can neither support nor refute recommendations for higher dose vitamin D supplementation to reduce cancer or total mortality.
