Journal ArticleDOI

Prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus by changes in lifestyle among subjects with impaired glucose tolerance.

TL;DR: Type 2 diabetes can be prevented by changes in the lifestyles of high-risk subjects by means of individualized counseling aimed at reducing weight, total intake of fat, and intake of saturated fat and increasing intake of fiber and physical activity.

Association analyses of 249,796 individuals reveal 18 new loci associated with body mass index

Elizabeth K. Speliotes, +374 more
TL;DR: 18 new loci associated with body mass index are identified, one of which includes a copy number variant near GPRC5B, and genes in other newly associated loci may provide new insights into human body weight regulation.
Journal Article

New genetic loci implicated in fasting glucose homeostasis and their impact on type 2 diabetes risk (vol 42, pg 105, 2010)

Josée Dupuis, +303 more
- 01 May 2010 -
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic variation in GIPR influences the glucose and insulin responses to an oral glucose challenge

Richa Saxena, +173 more
- 01 Feb 2010 -
TL;DR: A meta-analysis of nine genome-wide association studies and a follow-up of 29 independent loci found three newly implicated loci to be associated with type 2 diabetes: GIPR, ADCY5 and VPS13C.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic variation in leptin receptor gene is associated with type 2 diabetes and body weight: The Finnish Diabetes Prevention Study.

TL;DR: Two polymorphisms in the extracellular domain of the leptin receptor predicted the conversion to type 2 diabetes in high-risk individuals with IGT and the Del/Ins polymorphism in the 3′UTR of LEPR was associated with body weight.
