TL;DR: A significant fraction of (99m)Tc-albumin, taken as a model of ultrafine particles, rapidly diffuses from the lungs into the systemic circulation, and lower values were observed in the heart, spleen, kidneys, and brain.
Abstract: The mechanisms of particulate pollution-related cardiovascular morbidity and mortality are not well understood. We studied the passage of radioactively labeled ultrafine particles after their intratracheal instillation. Hamsters received a single intratracheal instillation of 100 microg albumin nanocolloid particles (nominal diameter < or = 80 nm) labeled with 100 microCi technetium-99m and were killed after 5, 15, 30, and 60 min. In blood, radioactivity, expressed as percentage of total body radioactivity per gram blood, amounted to 2.88 +/- 0.80%, 1.30 +/- 0.17%, 1.52 +/- 0.46%, and 0.21 +/- 0.06% at 5, 15, 30, and 60 min, respectively. Thin-layer chromatography showed only one peak of radioactivity corresponding to unaltered (99m)Tc-albumin nanocolloid. In the liver, radioactivity, expressed as percentage of total radioactivity per organ, amounted to 0.10 +/- 0.07%, 0.23 +/- 0.06%, 1.24 +/- 0.27%, and 0.06 +/- 0.02% at 5, 15, 30, and 60 min, respectively. Lower values were observed in the heart, spleen, kidneys, and brain. Dose dependence was assessed at 30 min following instillation of 10 microg and 1 microg (99m)Tc-albumin per animal (n = 3 at each dose), and values of the same relative magnitudes as after instillation of 100 microg were obtained. We conclude that a significant fraction of (99m)Tc-albumin, taken as a model of ultrafine particles, rapidly diffuses from the lungs into the systemic circulation.

TL;DR: This chapter gives an overview of frequently used mixed models for continuous as well as discrete longitudinal data, with emphasis on model formulation and parameter interpretation.
Abstract: Mixed models have become very popular for the analysis of longitudinal data, partly because they are flexible and widely applicable, partly also because many commercially available software packages offer procedures to fit them. They assume that measurements from a single subject share a set of latent, unobserved, random effects which are used to generate an association structure between the repeated measurements. In this chapter, we give an overview of frequently used mixed models for continuous as well as discrete longitudinal data, with emphasis on model formulation and parameter interpretation. The fact that the latent structures generate associations implies that mixed models are also extremely convenient for the joint analysis of longitudinal data with other outcomes such as dropout time or some time-to-event outcome, or for the analysis of multiple longitudinally measured outcomes. All models will be extensively illustrated with the analysis of real data.

TL;DR: This article found that holding an extrinsic, relative to an intrinsic, work value orientation was associated with less positive outcomes (i.e., less satisfaction with, dedication to and vitality while on the job) and more negative outcomes (e.g., higher emotional exhaustion, short-lived satisfaction after successful goal-attainment, and turn-over intention).
Abstract: Using self-determination theory, two studies found that holding an extrinsic, relative to an intrinsic, work value orientation was associated with less positive outcomes (i.e. less satisfaction with, dedication to and vitality while on the job) and more negative outcomes (i.e. higher emotional exhaustion, short-lived satisfaction after successful goal-attainment, and turn-over intention). These relations were not limited to job outcomes, but also emerged using indicators of employees' general mental health. Moreover, income level did not moderate these relations. Study 2 found that holding an extrinsic, relative to an intrinsic, work value orientation was detrimental to employees' job outcomes because these orientations thwarted the satisfaction of the basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence and relatedness at work.

TL;DR: This review will focus both on the potential clinical applications of these new ultrasound-based deformation parameters and the current limitations inherent in implementing the technique in everyday practice.
Abstract: On the basis of color Doppler myocardial motion data, 1-dimensional regional natural strain rate and strain curves can now be calculated by comparing local myocardial velocity profiles. Such deformation data sets may be an important, new, and more sensitive approach to quantifying both regional radial and long-axis function of the left or right ventricle in both acquired and congenital heart disease. The normal ranges of regional velocity, strain rate, and strain values have already been determined in both adults and children. This review will focus both on the potential clinical applications of these new ultrasound-based deformation parameters and the current limitations inherent in implementing the technique in everyday practice.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered a single copy of a pure four-partite state of qubits and investigated its behavior under the action of stochastic local quantum operations assisted by classical communication (SLOCC).
Abstract: We consider a single copy of a pure four-partite state of qubits and investigate its behavior under the action of stochastic local quantum operations assisted by classical communication (SLOCC). This leads to a complete classification of all different classes of pure states of four qubits. It is shown that there exist nine families of states corresponding to nine different ways of entangling four qubits. The states in the generic family give rise to Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-like entanglement. The other ones contain essentially two-or three-qubit entanglement distributed among the four parties. The concept of concurrence and 3-tangle is generalized to the case of mixed states of four qubits, giving rise to a seven-parameter family of entanglement monotones. Finally, the SLOCC operations maximizing all these entanglement monotones are derived, yielding the optimal single-copy distillation protocol.
