MicroRNA expression in chronic Hepatitis C patients treated with combined pegylated interferon alpha and ribavirin therapy

TL;DR: It could be concluded that chronic hepatitis C as well as the combination therapy modulate miR128/296 expression, which are not useful indicators to differentiate between responders and non-responders to combination therapy either in preor post-treatment groups.
Journal ArticleDOI

Avances en el tratamiento de la hepatitis C

TL;DR: The efficacy and safety of triple therapy in special populations such as cirrhotic and transplanted patients is less known and has some particulars, meaning that its administration requires an exhaustive monitoring.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sex difference in liver-related mortality and transplantation associated with dietary cholesterol in chronic hepatitis C virus infection.

TL;DR: High dietary cholesterol was associated with an increased risk for liver-related death and transplantation in HCV-infected women with advanced fibrosis or compensated cirrhosis, and future studies should assess whether reducing cholesterol intake, among women who consume an excessive amount, can decreaseHCV-related mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biomarkers development for early detection of cancer: Reducing the burden of cancer in the ageing society

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a cost effective cancer early detection protocols based on predictive biomarkers, which will improve patients management and reduce the high costs associated to treating patients when the disease is at an advanced stage.
Journal ArticleDOI

A VA Perspective: The Expanding Role of the Clinical Health Psychologist in the New Era of Hepatitis C and Advanced Liver Disease Clinical Care

TL;DR: The role of the clinical health psychologist in the past and new era of HCV clinical care is described, with special consideration placed on the expanding role on the latest advancements in antiviral treatment for HCV.

Aging of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV)-Infected Persons in the United States: A Multiple Cohort Model of HCV Prevalence and Disease Progression

TL;DR: Prevalence of hepatitis C cirrhosis and its complications will continue to increase through the next decade and will mostly affect those older than 60 years of age, but wider application of antiviral treatment and better responses with new agents could significantly reduce the impact of this disease in coming years.
