The Epidemiology of Cirrhosis in the United States: A Population-based Study.

TL;DR: The prevalence of cirrhosis in the general US population was higher than previously estimated, and more than half of cases may be undiagnosed and potentially preventable by controlling diabetes, alcohol abuse, and viral hepatitis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Epidemiology of hepatocellular carcinoma in the United States: Where are we? Where do we go?

TL;DR: The age distribution of HCC patients has shifted to younger ages, with the greatest proportional increases among individuals 45-60 years old, and HCC incidence rates are reported to be higher among Hispanics born in the United States than among foreign-born Hispanics.

Loco-regional treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Riccardo Lencioni
- 01 Aug 2010 -
TL;DR: Novel thermal and nonthermal techniques for tumor ablation—including microwave ablation, irreversible electroporation, and light‐activated drug therapy—seem to have potential to overcome the limitations of radiofrequency ablation and warrant further clinical investigation.
Journal ArticleDOI

The present and future disease burden of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection with today's treatment paradigm.

A. Sibley, +127 more
TL;DR: The current treatment rate and efficacy are not sufficient to manage the disease burden of hepatitis C virus and alternative strategies are required to keep the number of HCV individuals with advanced liver disease and liver‐related deaths from increasing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chronic Hepatitis C Infection

Aging of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV)-Infected Persons in the United States: A Multiple Cohort Model of HCV Prevalence and Disease Progression

TL;DR: Prevalence of hepatitis C cirrhosis and its complications will continue to increase through the next decade and will mostly affect those older than 60 years of age, but wider application of antiviral treatment and better responses with new agents could significantly reduce the impact of this disease in coming years.
