Journal ArticleDOI

HCV Eradication with Direct-Acting Antivirals Does Not Impact HCC Progression on the Waiting List or HCC Recurrence after Liver Transplantation.

TL;DR: It is suggested that HCV eradication pre-LT does not significantly impact waitlist time for HCV+ patients with HCC and there was no difference in HCC recurrence rates post- LT, whether patients achieved SVR pre- or post-LT.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biomechanics and functionality of hepatocytes in liver cirrhosis.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the biomechanical properties of hepatocytes are correlated with their functions, and that hepatic dysfunction can be restored through modulation of the cellular biomechanics, and the hepatocyte functionality appears to be regulated through a crosstalk between the Rho and Akt signaling.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sofosbuvir/velpatasvir regimen promises an effective pan-genotypic hepatitis C virus cure.

TL;DR: The safety and efficacy of sofosbuvir/velpatasvir combination regimen for all HCV genotypes is reviewed, but does need to be administered with caution in patients receiving certain medications or with certain diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Special populations: treating hepatitis C in patients with decompensated cirrhosis and/or advanced renal impairment.

TL;DR: It is shown that distinct interferon‐free treatments can achieve favourable sustained virological response rates in patients with decompensated cirrhosis and severe renal impairment, and pitfalls and special considerations as well as new emerging challenges in an era of interferons‐free regimens are presented.

Aging of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV)-Infected Persons in the United States: A Multiple Cohort Model of HCV Prevalence and Disease Progression

TL;DR: Prevalence of hepatitis C cirrhosis and its complications will continue to increase through the next decade and will mostly affect those older than 60 years of age, but wider application of antiviral treatment and better responses with new agents could significantly reduce the impact of this disease in coming years.
