Some considerations on the predictions of pharmacokinetic alterations in subjects with liver disease

TL;DR: A list of marketed drugs was examined with the aim to identify compound PK characteristics potentially correlated to the extent of PK changes in LD and extensive renal elimination was the only predictor of the lack of significant changes in PK in subjects with LD.
Journal ArticleDOI

HIV-hepatitis C virus co-infection in the era of direct-acting antivirals.

TL;DR: Improvements in direct-acting antivirals have now entered clinical practice and others have reached advanced stages of clinical development, but physicians must be aware of the differences between theseDAAs, the patient characteristics that play a role on the effectiveness of these medications, and the drug-drug interactions these DAAs may have with existing HIV antiretroviral therapies.

Antiviral Therapy in Elderly Patients With Hepatitis C Virus Infection.

TL;DR: Analysis of the current literature shows that direct-acting antiviral agents have been effective, well tolerated, and safe in the elderly population, and this article highlights the efficacy and safety differences in interferon-based therapy and interferons-free regimens for elderly patients with HCV infection.

Outcomes after sofosbuvir-containing regimens for hepatitis C virus in patients with decompensated cirrhosis: a real-world study

TL;DR: Sofosbuvir-containing regimens are effective in Chinese HCV patients with decompensated cirrhosis, regardless of baseline characteristics, as demonstrated by a high rate of SVR 12, as well as improvement in liver function.

Aging of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV)-Infected Persons in the United States: A Multiple Cohort Model of HCV Prevalence and Disease Progression

TL;DR: Prevalence of hepatitis C cirrhosis and its complications will continue to increase through the next decade and will mostly affect those older than 60 years of age, but wider application of antiviral treatment and better responses with new agents could significantly reduce the impact of this disease in coming years.
