Interleukin 28B polymorphisms as predictors of sustained virological response in chronic hepatitis C: systematic review and meta-analysis

TL;DR: A critical evaluation of interleukin 28B genotype as a pharmacogenetic predictor in hepatitis C patients is provided and the association with response was lower for baseline viremia and higher for rapid virological response.
Journal ArticleDOI

A real-world impact of cost-effectiveness of pegylated interferon/ribavarin regimens on treatment-naïve chronic hepatitis C patients in Taiwan.

TL;DR: The real‐world cost‐effectiveness of PEG‐IFN/RBV for treatment‐naïve CHC patients is provided to enhance decision‐making for policy‐makers in the coming era of directly acting antiviral therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Total joint arthroplasty in patients with chronic infectious liver disease

TL;DR: The various clinical presentations of chronic infectious liver disease are discussed, the relevant literature involving total joint arthroplasty for this population is summarized, and appropriate patient selection and perioperative optimization are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI

Review article: treatment as prevention – targeting people who inject drugs as a pathway towards hepatitis C eradication

TL;DR: New research has emerged which suggests that by specifically targeting HCV‐infected people who inject drugs for treatment, the pool of HCV would deplete, thus reducing overall transmission and eventually leading to HCV eradication.
Journal Article

Clinical study on the therapeutic role of midodrine in non azotemic cirrhotic patients with tense ascites: a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial.

TL;DR: Midodrine appeared to be effective in lowering body weights and abdominal girths of non azotemic cirrhotic patients with tense ascites after 2 weeks of midodrine therapy.

Aging of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV)-Infected Persons in the United States: A Multiple Cohort Model of HCV Prevalence and Disease Progression

TL;DR: Prevalence of hepatitis C cirrhosis and its complications will continue to increase through the next decade and will mostly affect those older than 60 years of age, but wider application of antiviral treatment and better responses with new agents could significantly reduce the impact of this disease in coming years.
