TLDR
In this article, the first wide-range measurement of the charged particle pseudorapidity density distribution, for different centralities (the 0-5, 5-10, 10-20, and 20-30% most central events) in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV at the LHC was performed using the full coverage of the ALICE detectors, -5.0 < eta < 5.5.

EPOS LHC: Test of collective hadronization with data measured at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the changes required to the model to reproduce in detail the new data available from LHC and the consequences in the interpretation of these data, in particular the effect of the collective hadronization in p-p scattering.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heavy Ion Collisions: The Big Picture, and the Big Questions

TL;DR: The physics of heavy ion collisions quickly form a droplet of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) with a remarkably small viscosity as discussed by the authors, which is perhaps the simplest form of complex quantum matter that we know of.

Performance of the ALICE VZERO system

E. Abbas, +1022 more
TL;DR: The ALICE VZERO system, made of two scintillator arrays at asymmetric positions, one on each side of the interaction point, plays a central role in ALICE and is used to monitor LHC beam conditions, to reject beam-induced backgrounds and to measure basic physics quantities such as luminosity, particle multiplicity, centrality and event plane direction as mentioned in this paper.

Multiplicity dependence of light-flavor hadron production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV

TL;DR: In this paper, the transverse momentum (pT) spectra of the particles under study and the event activity are measured in different rapidity windows, in order to avoid autocorrelation biases, and the evolution of the spectral shapes with multiplicity and hadron mass shows patterns that are similar to those observed in high multiplicity pp collisions at Large Hadron Collider energies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Robust Independent Validation of Experiment and Theory: Rivet version 3

TL;DR: Rivet as mentioned in this paper is a repository for analysis code, facilitating comparisons between measurements of the final state in particle collisions and theoretical calculations of those final states, and summarise recent developments including propagation of MC systematic uncertainty weights, heavy-ion and $ep$ physics, and systems for detector emulation.

Semihard processes in QCD

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of parton-parton interactions (screenings), that stop the increase of the cross sections near their unitarity limit, and the coherent emission of soft gluons by the global colour charge of whole groups of harder particles, are studied in detail.
Journal ArticleDOI

The PHOBOS Perspective on Discoveries at RHIC

TL;DR: In the most central Au+Au collisions at the highest beam energy, evidence is found for the formation of a very high energy density system whose description in terms of simple hadronic degrees of freedom is inappropriate as discussed by the authors.
