Chikungunya virus, southeastern France.

TLDR
Sequence analysis of the viral genomes of imported and autochthonous isolates indicated new features for the potential emergence and spread of the chikungunya virus in Europe.
Abstract
In September 2010, autochthonous transmission of chikungunya virus was recorded in southeastern France, where the Aedes albopictus mosquito vector is present. Sequence analysis of the viral genomes of imported and autochthonous isolates indicated new features for the potential emergence and spread of the virus in Europe.

Immunogenicity and Efficacy of a Measles Virus-Vectored Chikungunya Vaccine in Nonhuman Primates.

TL;DR: These results further document the immunogenicity and efficacy of a measles-vectored chikungunya vaccine that shows promise in Phase I–II clinical trials and are critical to human health because no vaccine to combat CHIKF is yet licensed.

The E2-E166K substitution restores Chikungunya virus growth in OAS3 expressing cells by acting on viral entry

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a single glutamine-to-lysine amino acid change at position 166 of the envelope E2 glycoprotein restores Chikungunya virus replication in OAS3 expressing HeLa cells, providing a new insight into the role of E2 into the pathogenicity of CHIKV in human cells.

West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne viruses present in Eastern Europe.

TL;DR: A positive correlation between the risk of WNV re-emergence in an area and the number of human cases reported in the previous year is found and main gaps of knowledge in relation to moboviruses and their vectors in EE are identified.

Mosquito Rasputin interacts with chikungunya virus nsP3 and determines the infection rate in Aedes albopictus

TL;DR: This study offers novel insight into a conserved virus-mosquito interaction at the molecular level, and reveals a strong proviral role for G3BP homologue Rin in live mosquitoes, making the nsP3-Rin interaction a putative target to interfere with the CHIKV transmission cycle.

The Italian 2017 Outbreak Chikungunya Virus Belongs to an Emerging Aedes albopictus-Adapted Virus Cluster Introduced From the Indian Subcontinent

TL;DR: Genetic analyses show that the 2017 Italian outbreak virus belongs to a cluster of novel IOL chikungunya viruses originating in India, which calls for enhanced monitoring and strengthened preparedness measures, including vector control programs and raised awareness among general practitioners in countries potentially at risk.

Infection with chikungunya virus in Italy: an outbreak in a temperate region

TL;DR: In this article, an outbreak of chikungunya virus (CHIKV) was reported in Italy, where the primary source of infection and modes of transmission were identified and an active surveillance system was also implemented.

A single mutation in chikungunya virus affects vector specificity and epidemic potential.

TL;DR: The observation that a single amino acid substitution can influence vector specificity provides a plausible explanation of how this mutant virus caused an epidemic in a region lacking the typical vector, and has important implications with respect to how viruses may establish a transmission cycle when introduced into a new area.

Present and future arboviral threats.

TL;DR: Viruses such as dengue (DENV) and chikungunya (CHIKV) that have lost the requirement for enzootic amplification now produce extensive epidemics in tropical urban centers, and climate warming could facilitate the expansion of the distributions of many arboviruses.
