Chikungunya virus, southeastern France.

TLDR
Sequence analysis of the viral genomes of imported and autochthonous isolates indicated new features for the potential emergence and spread of the chikungunya virus in Europe.
Abstract
In September 2010, autochthonous transmission of chikungunya virus was recorded in southeastern France, where the Aedes albopictus mosquito vector is present. Sequence analysis of the viral genomes of imported and autochthonous isolates indicated new features for the potential emergence and spread of the virus in Europe.

Maiden Outbreak of Chikungunya in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, China: Epidemiological Characteristics

TL;DR: Comprehensive control measures based on reducing the density of Aedes mosquitoes were effective in controlling the epidemic and the Breteau index and Mosq-ovitrap index decreased rapidly.

A comprehensive immunoinformatics and target site study revealed the corner-stone toward Chikungunya virus treatment.

TL;DR: This computational epitope-based peptide vaccine designing and target site prediction against CHIKV opens up a new horizon which may be the prospective way in Chikungunya virus research.

A Phenotypic Assay to Identify Chikungunya Virus Inhibitors Targeting the Nonstructural Protein nsP2

TL;DR: A natural compound is identified that partially blocks nsP2 activity and inhibits CHIKV replication in vitro and suggests that similar functional assays could be developed to target other viral proteins mediating a cellular shutoff and identify innovative therapeutic molecules.

Discovery of a novel antiviral agent targeting the nonstructural protein 4 (nsP4) of chikungunya virus

TL;DR: Results demonstrated that the target site of Compound-A was the M2295 residue in the nonstructural protein 4 (nsP4), which is located in one of the functional domains of RNA-dependent RNA-polymerase (RdRp) which inhibits RdRp function ofCHIKV by using CHIKV replicons.

From importation to autochthonous transmission: Drivers of chikungunya and dengue emergence in a temperate area

TL;DR: A long reporting delay of imported cases to local health authorities is identified as the main driver for autochthonous transmission of dengue and chikungunya in Southern France and can be extrapolated in this area to other viruses such as Zika and yellow fever, which share the same vector.

Infection with chikungunya virus in Italy: an outbreak in a temperate region

TL;DR: In this article, an outbreak of chikungunya virus (CHIKV) was reported in Italy, where the primary source of infection and modes of transmission were identified and an active surveillance system was also implemented.

A single mutation in chikungunya virus affects vector specificity and epidemic potential.

TL;DR: The observation that a single amino acid substitution can influence vector specificity provides a plausible explanation of how this mutant virus caused an epidemic in a region lacking the typical vector, and has important implications with respect to how viruses may establish a transmission cycle when introduced into a new area.

Present and future arboviral threats.

TL;DR: Viruses such as dengue (DENV) and chikungunya (CHIKV) that have lost the requirement for enzootic amplification now produce extensive epidemics in tropical urban centers, and climate warming could facilitate the expansion of the distributions of many arboviruses.
