TLDR
In this article, a quantitative evaluation of dilepton sources in heavy-ion reactions is performed taking into account both thermal and non-thermal production mechanisms, and a convolution of the emission rates over a thermal fireball expansion results in good agreement with experiment in the low-mass spectra, confirming the predicted broadening of the ρ meson in hadronic matter in connection with the prevalence of baryon induced medium effects.

Properties of hot and dense matter from relativistic heavy ion collisions

TL;DR: In this paper, the progress achieved in extracting the properties of hot and dense matter from relativistic heavy ion collisions at the RHIC at Brookhaven National Laboratory and the large hadron collider (LHC) at CERN is reviewed.

Mapping the phases of quantum chromodynamics with beam energy scan

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review the present status of the search for a phase transition and critical point as well as anomalous transport phenomena in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), with an emphasis on the Beam Energy Scan program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Colloquium : Phase diagram of strongly interacting matter

TL;DR: In this paper, the physical aspects of the phase diagram, its relation to the evolution of the early Universe, as well as the inner core of neutron stars are discussed, and recent progress in the experimental study of hadronic or quark-gluon matter under extreme conditions with ultrarelativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions is summarized.

Upgrade of the ALICE Experiment Letter Of Intent

Betty Abelev, +1057 more
- 01 Aug 2014 -
TL;DR: The ALICE Collaboration is preparing a major upgrade of the experimental apparatus, planned for installation in the second long LHC shutdown in the years 2018-2019 as mentioned in this paper, which will be achieved by an increase of the Pb-Pb instant luminosity up to 6×1027 cm−2s−1 and running the ALICE detector with the continuous readout at the 50 kHz event rate.

Precise Relations between the Spectra of Vector and Axial-Vector Mesons

TL;DR: In this paper, the moments of the spectral functions of the vector and axial vector currents were derived, and two sum rules were derived for relating moments of spectral functions, and it was shown that if it is assumed that the $\ensuremath{\rho}$ and $A1$ mesons dominate these moments, then their masses must be in the ratio

Thermal phenomenology of hadrons from 200-A/GeV S+S collisions

TL;DR: A complete and consistent description for the hadron spectra from heavy ion collisions in terms of a few collective variables, in particular temperature, longitudinal, and transverse flow is developed.
