Electric vehicles and the electric grid: A review of modeling approaches, Impacts, and renewable energy integration

TLDR
A review of the current literature on EVs, the electric grid, and renewable energy integration is presented in this paper, where the economic, environmental and grid impacts of EVs are reviewed.
Abstract
Electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy sources offer the potential to substantially decrease carbon emissions from both the transportation and power generation sectors of the economy. Mass adoption of EVs will have a number of impacts and benefits, including the ability to assist in the integration of renewable energy into existing electric grids. This paper reviews the current literature on EVs, the electric grid, and renewable energy integration. Key methods and assumptions of the literature are discussed. The economic, environmental and grid impacts of EVs are reviewed. Numerous studies assessing the ability of EVs to integrate renewable energy sources are assessed; the literature indicates that EVs can significantly reduce the amount of excess renewable energy produced in an electric system. Studies on wind–EV interaction are much more detailed than those on solar photovoltaics (PV) and EVs. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research.

A market modeling review study on predicting Malaysian consumer behavior towards widespread adoption of PHEV/EV

TL;DR: This review is based on improving how the “attitude-action” gap is understood as it is an important element for further studies on PHEVs and examines how to modify the consumer’s environmental concerns in acquiring PH EVs.

Personal Vehicles Evaluated against Climate Change Mitigation Targets

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examine the costs and carbon intensities of 125 light-duty vehicle models on the U.S. market today and evaluate these models against U. S. emission-reduction targets for 2030, 2040, and 2050 that are compatible with the goal of limiting mean global temperature rise to 2 °C above preindustrial levels.

The market case for electric mobility: Investigating electric vehicle business models for mass adoption

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the challenges for electric vehicles focusing on their current and future business implications and find that for wide diffusion in society, EVs will change the traditional automotive selling chain, directly affecting selling methods (i.e. dealerships), maintenance revenue streams and refuelling (recharging) structures.

Integration of renewable energy into the transport and electricity sectors through V2G

TL;DR: In this paper, two national energy systems are modelled, one for Denmark, including combined heat and power (CHP) and the other a similarly sized country without CHP (the latter being more typical of other industrialized countries).

A conceptual framework for the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) implementation

TL;DR: A proposed framework to effectively integrate the aggregated battery vehicles into the grid as distributed energy resources to act as controllable loads to levelize the demand on the system during off-peak conditions and as a generation/storage device during the day to provide capacity and energy services to the grid.
