Fibroblast Growth Factor 2 Induced Proliferation in Osteoblasts and Bone Marrow Stromal Cells: A Whole Cell Model

TLDR
A whole-cell kinetic model relating receptor-mediated binding, internalization, and processing of FGF2 to osteoblastic proliferative response is presented and evidence of potential multistep processes involved in heparan-sulfate proteoglycans-bound F GF2 release, internalized, and fragment formation in conjunction with the normal metabolism of the proteoglycan is shown.

Adipocyte differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells: cross talk with the osteoblastogenic program.

TL;DR: The molecular regulation of bone marrow adipogenesis is discussed with emphasis on signals that interact with osteoblastogenic pathways and the possible therapeutic implications of these interactions are highlighted.

The use of platelet-rich plasma in bone reconstruction therapy.

TL;DR: By examining the studies that have both successfully and unsuccessfully utilized PRP, the present review suggests how PRP might be used in order to achieve successful results in orthopaedic and dental bone reconstruction surgeries.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fibroblast growth factor-2 primes human mesenchymal stem cells for enhanced chondrogenesis.

TL;DR: This study shows that FGF-2 pretreatment actually primed hMSCs to undergo enhanced chondrogenesis by increasing basal Sox9 protein levels, and provides new insights into the mechanism by which F GF-2 regulates predifferentiation h MSCs to undergoing enhanced CG.

Localized delivery of growth factors for angiogenesis and bone formation in tissue engineering

TL;DR: This review focuses on growth factors that have dual functions in angiogenesis and osteogenesis, and their localized application and presents an overview of selected preclinical studies, followed by a conceptual description of both established and proposed delivery strategies meeting therapeutic needs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adipocyte-secreted factors increase osteoblast proliferation and the OPG/RANKL ratio to influence osteoclast formation.

TL;DR: Human adipocytes secrete factors that directly act on preosteoblasts and alter their crosstalk with osteoclasts, which reflects the higher bone mass in obese people and attribute it to effects of adipocyte-secreted factors on bone formation.

Cell signaling by receptor-tyrosine kinases

TL;DR: Understanding of the complex signaling networks downstream from RTKs and how alterations in these networks are translated into cellular responses provides an important context for therapeutically countering the effects of pathogenic RTK mutations in cancer and other diseases.

Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Pathways Mediated by ERK, JNK, and p38 Protein Kinases

TL;DR: Multicellular organisms have three well-characterized subfamilies of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) that control a vast array of physiological processes, and inhibitors of these enzymes are being explored as anticancer agents.

Cell surface, heparin-like molecules are required for binding of basic fibroblast growth factor to its high affinity receptor.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that free heparin and heparan sulfate can reconstitute a low affinity receptor that is, in turn, required for the high affinity binding of bFGF.
Journal ArticleDOI

Receptor specificity of the fibroblast growth factor family.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that FGF 1 is the only FGF that can activate all FGF receptor splice variants and the relative activity of all the other members of the FGF family is determined.
