TLDR
Not only are oxygen radicals involved in the cause of diabetes, they also appear to play a role in some of the complications seen in long-term treatment of diabetes.

Revisiting cancer hallmarks: insights from the interplay between oxidative stress and non-coding RNAs

TL;DR: Evidence is provided that shows the essential role of ncRNAs and the interplay between oxidative stress and nc RNAs in regulating cancer hallmarks, which may expand the understanding of n cRNAs in the cancer development from the new perspective.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of lysozyme chloride on betel quid chewing aggravated gastric oxidative stress and hemorrhagic ulcer in diabetic rats

TL;DR: Daily intragastric lysozyme chloride dose-dependently inhibited exacerbation of various ulcerogenic parameters in those BQC-fed DM rats, which effectively protected B QC aggravated gastric damage in DM rats.

Antioxidant activity of the exudate from Aloe barbadensis leaves in diabetic rats

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of the exudate of Aloe barbadensis leaves on oxidative stress and some antioxidant status of streptozotocin induced - diabetic rats were studied.

Plant foods in the prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus with emphasis on dietary fiber and antioxidant vitamins

TL;DR: It seems conceivable that prevention of type 2 diabetes can be aided by the consumption of plant foods, which are rich in nutrients with hypothesized benefits in preventing diabetes, but more studies are needed to clarify.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydrogen Peroxide Generation from Hydrated Protein Drink Mixes

TL;DR: Generation of oxygen radicals upon hydration of powdered protein products was examined using luminol-enhanced chemiluminescence, demonstrating that hydrogen peroxide generated via a chemical reaction among the drink mixes' ingredients was a primary reactive oxygen species (ROS).

The generation of hydrogen peroxide, superoxide radical, and hydroxyl radical by 6-hydroxydopamine, dialuric acid, and related cytotoxic agents.

TL;DR: The results point to a reaction between H2O2 and O2- (Haber-Weiss reaction) as a major source of the ·OH radicals and to a combined action of blocking ·OH formation as well as accelerating its removal.
Journal ArticleDOI

Streptozotocin and alloxan induce DNA strand breaks and poly(ADP-ribose) synthetase in pancreatic islets.

TL;DR: It is described that both Streptozotocin and alloxan cause DNA strand breaks which stimulate nuclear poly(ADP–ribose) synthetase, thereby depleting intracellular NAD and inhibiting proinsulin synthesis in isolated pancreatic islets of rats.
Journal ArticleDOI

CuZn-superoxide dismutase, Mn-superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase in pancreatic islets and other tissues in the mouse.

TL;DR: Pancreatic islets were found to belong to tissues with relatively little activity of the protective enzymes, and the deviation from other tissues in this respect is probably not large enough to explain the especially great susceptibility of islet cells to alloxan.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lipid peroxide level in plasma of diabetic patients.

TL;DR: The data obtained with a large sample of patients, and the relation between the lipid peroxide level and the different features of the disease are dealt with.
