Gestures for touch sensitive input devices

TLDR
In this article, the authors described a system for processing touch inputs with respect to a multipoint sensing device and identifying at least one multipoint gesture based on the data from the multi-point sensing device.
Abstract
Methods and systems for processing touch inputs are disclosed. The invention in one respect includes reading data from a multipoint sensing device such as a multipoint touch screen where the data pertains to touch input with respect to the multipoint sensing device, and identifying at least one multipoint gesture based on the data from the multipoint sensing device.

Touch screen device, method, and graphical user interface for moving on-screen objects without using a cursor

TL;DR: In this paper, an electronic device with a touch screen display detects a single finger contact on the touch screen, creates a touch area that corresponds to the single finger contacts, determines a representative point within the touch area, determines if the touch region overlaps an object displayed on the display, which includes determining if one or more portions of the touched area other than the representative point overlap the object, connects the object with the touched region, where connecting maintains the overlap of the object and the touch regions.

Method and apparatus to reject accidental contact on a touchpad

TL;DR: In this article, a portable computer having a display assembly coupled to a base assembly to alternate between a closed position and an open position is presented, where palm rest areas are formed by a touchpad disposed on the surface of the base assembly.

Apparatus and method for turning e-book pages in portable terminal

TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus and method for turning electronic book (e-book) pages in a portable terminal are provided, which includes executing an e-book, determining if a touch down is input more left than a predetermined right User Interface (UI) activation region of the ebook.

Exemplar-based natural language processing

TL;DR: In this paper, an exemplar-based NLP system for NLP is presented, and a semantic edit distance between the first text phrase and the second text phrase in a semantic space can be determined based on one or more of the insertion cost, the deletion cost, and the substitution cost.

Method and apparatus for selecting an object within a user interface by performing a gesture

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a system that facilitates invoking a command by suggesting a gesture from a user at a device and then determining a graphic element within the user interface that is associated with the gesture.

Method and apparatus for integrating manual input

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple proximity transduction circuit is placed under each electrode to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio and to reduce wiring complexity, and segmentation processing of each proximity image constructs a group of electrodes corresponding to each distinguishable contacts and extracts shape, position and surface proximity features for each group.

User interface

TL;DR: A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user as mentioned in this paper. User interfaces include any aspect of the system that is visible to the user, such as a keyboard, mouse, or display.

Object position detector with edge motion feature and gesture recognition

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method of generating a signal comprising providing a capacitive touch sensor pad including a matrix of X and Y conductors, developing capacitance profiles in one of an X direction and a Y direction from the matrix, and determining an occurrence of a single gesture through an examination of the capacitance profile, the single gesture including an application of at least two objects on the capacitive sensor pad.
