TLDR
The findings show that the malaria mortality burden is larger than previously estimated, especially in adults, and there has been a rapid decrease in malaria mortality in Africa because of the scaling up of control activities supported by international donors.

Steric-electronic effects in malarial peptides inducing sterile immunity.

TL;DR: Conserved Plasmodium falciparum high activity binding peptides' most relevant proteins involved in malaria parasite invasion are immunologically silent; critical binding residues must therefore be specifically replaced to render them highly immunogenic and protection-inducing.

Searching cause of death through different autopsy methods: A new initiative

TL;DR: Different autopsy methods, their relevance and applicability in modern day perspective are made a journey through considering scientific research articles, textbooks and interviews.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic diversity and complexity of Plasmodium falciparum infections in the microenvironment among siblings of the same household in North-Central Nigeria.

TL;DR: It is shown that P. falciparum isolates exhibit remarkable degree of genetic diversity in the micro-environment and are composed mainly of multiclonal infections, which is an indication of a high ongoing parasite transmission, which suggests that themicro-environment is an important area of focus for malaria control interventions and for evaluating intervention programmes.

Knowledge, attitude and practice towards malaria prevention among school children aged 5 -14 years in sub-saharan Africa - a review of literature

TL;DR: Altering the perceptions and attitude of schoolchildren in a positive way will enhance best practices towards malaria prevention among schoolchildren.

Exploring the Plasmodium falciparum Transcriptome Using Hypergeometric Analysis of Time Series (HATS)

TL;DR: Exploring the Plasmodium falciparum Transcriptome Using Hypergeometric Analysis of Time Series (HATS) using hypergeometric analysis of time series data for the first time.

The global burden of disease: a comprehensive assessment of mortality and disability from diseases injuries and risk factors in 1990 and projected to 2020.

TL;DR: This is the first in a planned series of 10 volumes that will attempt to "summarize epidemiological knowledge about all major conditions and most risk factors" and use historical trends in main determinants to project mortality and disease burden forward to 2020.
Journal ArticleDOI

The global distribution of clinical episodes of Plasmodium falciparum malaria

TL;DR: It is estimated that there were 515 (range 300–660) million episodes of clinical P. falciparum malaria in 2002, up to 50% higher than those reported by the World Health Organization and 200% higher for areas outside Africa, reflecting the WHO's reliance upon passive national reporting for these countries.

Maternal mortality for 181 countries, 1980-2008: a systematic analysis of progress towards Millennium Development Goal 5.

TL;DR: Although only 23 countries are on track to achieve a 75% decrease in MMR by 2015, countries such as Egypt, China, Ecuador, and Bolivia have been achieving accelerated progress and substantial, albeit varied, progress has been made towards MDG 5.
