Ileal-lymphoid-nodular hyperplasia, non-specific colitis, and pervasive developmental disorder in children

TLDR
In this paper, the authors investigated a consecutive series of children with chronic enterocolitis and regressive developmental disorder, and identified associated gastrointestinal disease and developmental regression in a group of previously normal children, which was generally associated in time with possible environmental triggers.

Vaccination and its adverse effects: real or perceived: Society should think about means of linking exposure to potential long term effect

Tom Jefferson
- 18 Jul 1998 -
TL;DR: Evidence does not support a causal link between vaccination and the onset of type 1 diabetes, according to immunologists, diabetologists, epidemiologists, policymakers, and observers.

Postlicensure epidemiology of childhood vaccination: the Danish experience.

TL;DR: The unique opportunities for postlicensure research in Denmark with respect to the data sources available and the epidemiological and statistical methods used are described and a number of recent postlicensing studies of effectiveness and safety that took advantage of these opportunities are described.

Measles, mumps, rubella vaccine (Priorix; GSK-MMR): a review of its use in the prevention of measles, mumps and rubella.

TL;DR: In conclusion, GSK-MMR is a highly immunogenic MMR vaccine with good tolerability and causes fewer injection-site adverse events than Merck- MMR, and is an attractive alternative for immunisation against measles, mumps and rubella.

The National Patient Safety Agency

TL;DR: The National Patient Safety Agency needs to move from automatically blaming individual front-line staff to an understanding of the underlying factors in the system which are more often responsible for incidents, and to have the safety of patients at the heart of their practice.

The combined measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines and the total number of vaccines are not associated with development of autism spectrum disorder: the first case-control study in Asia.

TL;DR: There were not any convincing evidences that MMR vaccination and increasing the number of vaccine injections were associated with an increased risk of ASD in a genetically homogeneous population, and these findings indicate that there is no basis for avoiding vaccination out of concern for ASD.

The Autistic Spectrum

Lorna Wing
TL;DR: A simple system of subgrouping based solely on a description of the type of social impairment will be used, which avoids the confusion inherent in trying to identify the named syndromes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Abnormal intestinal permeability in children with autism.

TL;DR: It is speculated that an altered intestinal permeability could represent a possible mechanism for the increased passage through the gut mucosa of peptides derived from foods with subsequent behavioural abnormalities.
Journal ArticleDOI

A neurochemical theory of autism

TL;DR: Panksepp et al. as discussed by the authors put forward the idea that autism is an emotional disturbance arising from an upset in the opiate systems in the brain, and hence proposed, as a possibility, opiate antagonist therapy for the autistic syndrome.
