TLDR
The risk of intestinal surgery among patients with IBD has decreased over the past 6 decades, and the trend in risk of surgery over time was analyzed by meta-regression using mixed-effect models.About:

IBD therapy: new targets and unmet needs.
TL;DR: There is great optimism that an integrated 'omics' approach incorporating genetic, microbiota with clinical and environmental data will help in choosing for each patient a personalized approach targeting the mechanisms driving the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
What’s New in the Postoperative Management of Crohn’s Disease?
TL;DR: In this article, the authors outline the risk factors for postoperative recurrence, advances in postoperative endoscopic evaluation and characterization of recurrence and non-invasive methods of assessing post-operative recurrences, use of postoperative prophylactic medical therapy including newer biologics, and novel surgical methods to reduce postoperative recurrent disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mild neoterminal ileal post‐operative recurrence of Crohn’s disease conveys higher risk for severe endoscopic disease progression than isolated anastomotic lesions
Salam P. Bachour,Ravi S. Shah,Ruishen Lyu,Florian Rieder,Taha Qazi,Bret A. Lashner,Jean-Paul Achkar,Jessica R Philpott,E. Leon Barnes,Jordan E. Axelrad,Stefan D. Holubar,Amy L. Lightner,Miguel Regueiro,Benjamin L Cohen,Benjamin H. Click +14 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to determine the relative risk of severe disease progression in post‐operative Crohn’s disease patients with isolated anastomotic disease.

Incidence and Risk Factors of Cancer in the Anal Transitional Zone and Ileal Pouch following Surgery for Ulcerative Colitis and Familial Adenomatous Polyposis
G. Le Cosquer,Etienne Buscail,Cyrielle Gilletta,Céline Deraison,J.-P. Duffas,Barbara Bournet,Géraud Tuyeras,Nathalie Vergnolle,Louis Buscail +8 more
TL;DR: Even if anal transitional zone and ileal pouch cancers seldom occur following proctectomy for ulcerative colitis and familial adenomatous polyposis, the high mortality rate associated with this complication warrants close endoscopic monitoring, mainly every year with pouchoscopy including chromoendoscopy.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the incidence of stoma formation in patients with Crohn's disease over time and compared formation and closure of stomas over the calendar periods of diagnosis (2003-2006, 2007-2010, and 2011-2014).

Measuring inconsistency in meta-analyses
TL;DR: A new quantity is developed, I 2, which the authors believe gives a better measure of the consistency between trials in a meta-analysis, which is susceptible to the number of trials included in the meta- analysis.

Quantifying heterogeneity in a meta‐analysis
TL;DR: It is concluded that H and I2, which can usually be calculated for published meta-analyses, are particularly useful summaries of the impact of heterogeneity, and one or both should be presented in publishedMeta-an analyses in preference to the test for heterogeneity.

TL;DR: A checklist contains specifications for reporting of meta-analyses of observational studies in epidemiology, including background, search strategy, methods, results, discussion, and conclusion should improve the usefulness ofMeta-an analyses for authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and decision makers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Operating characteristics of a rank correlation test for publication bias.
TL;DR: In this paper, an adjusted rank correlation test is proposed as a technique for identifying publication bias in a meta-analysis, and its operating characteristics are evaluated via simulations, and the test statistic is a direct statistical analogue of the popular funnel-graph.
