Journal ArticleDOI
Consolidation and flow of cohesive bulk solids
TL;DR: In this paper, the strength and flow properties of bulk solids can be determined by performing shear tests and the measured strength depends on the way and degree of consolidation, and the strength of a bulk solid sample strongly depends on its stress history and it can show anisotropic behaviour.
Journal ArticleDOI
Moisture-induced caking of boric acid powder
TL;DR: In this paper, a caking index was obtained by comparing the mass of cake formed to the original sample, which was calculated by independent measurement of the equilibrium moisture sorption isotherm, and showed that the resulting supersaturated solution promotes crystal growth on surfaces of larger radii of curvature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gravity Flow of Granular Materials in Conical Hoppers
TL;DR: In this article, an approximate solution to the flow of a cohesionless granular material in a conical hopper is presented, where the material is modeled as a perfectly plastic continuum which satisfies the Mohr-Coulomb yield condition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Flowability Properties of Commercial Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS)
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured flowability characteristics of DDGS samples from five ethanol plants in the north central region of the United States and found that the largest particles had an average geometric mean diameter (GMD) of 1.19 mm, while the lowest particle size was 0.5 mm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Finite element investigation of the flow and stress patterns in conical hopper during discharge
TL;DR: In this article, a finite element method (FEM) based on the Eulerian formulation is described and validated to meet the need of precise evaluation of the dynamics of granular material during hopper discharge, particularly the velocity field coupled with the stress field.
