Design pressures in circular bins, which have been of concern in recent years, are examined. Shallow bin pressures are distinguished from deep bin pressures. Furthermore, deep bin pressures are examined for funnel flow and mass flow conditions. Pressures due to outside temperature variations are examined. Examples and drawings are provided to clarify the principles described herein.

Das Fliesverhalten des Schuttgutes lasst sich uber physikalische Grosen wie Schuttgutfestigkeit (Druckfestigkeit), innere Reibung, effektiver Reibungswinkel und Schuttgutdichte beschreiben. Dazu kommen die Zeitverfestigung, die die Zunahme der Schuttgutfestigkeit bei langerer Lagerung des Schuttgutes unter dabei auf das Schuttgut wirkender Druckspannung beschreibt, sowie die Wandreibung, also die Reibung zwischen einem Schuttgut und einer Festkorperoberflache (z. B. die Wand eines Trichters). Die genannten Grosen werden durch Messung sogenannter Fliesorte, Zeitfliesorte und Wandfliesorte bestimmt. Aus der Schuttgutfestigkeit lasst sich eine Kennzahl zur Beurteilung der Fliesfahigkeit ableiten, deren Anwendbarkeit und Herkunft diskutiert wird. Neben den genannten Grosen, die von der auf das Schuttgut wirkenden Spannung abhangen, werden die Grundprinzipien zu ihrer Messung erlautert.

The liquid state is, undoubtedly, of utmost importance in the material processing industries, including the food industry. Numerous raw materials and products are in liquid form in a variety of processes. Liquid foods, such as milk, honey, fruit juices, beverages, and vegetable oils, are handled at different stages in food processing lines. More consistent food materials, such as salad dressings and mayonnaise, may also behave somewhat like liquids. There are many important properties of liquids to deal with, such as thermal conductivity and specific heat. However, the most relevant are those related to flow since most liquid foods are mainly conveyed and pumped, so their flow behavior properties are important for determining the power requirements for pumping or the sizing of pipes. The transport of liquid foods by pumps and other relevant applications in processing are directly related to their properties, especially density and viscosity.
