Determinants in Canadian Health Care Workers of the Decision to Withdraw Life Support from the Critically Ill
Deborah J. Cook,Gordon H. Guyatt,Roman Jaeschke,Joan Reeve,Allen Spanier,Derek King,D. Willie Molloy,Andrew Willian,David L. Streiner +8 more
TL;DR: While ICU health care workers consistently identify a number of patient factors as important in decisions to withdraw care, there is extreme variability, which may be explained in part by the values of individual health care providers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dalteparin thromboprophylaxis for critically ill medical-surgical patients with renal insufficiency.
Christian Rabbat,Deborah J. Cook,Mark Crowther,Ellen McDonald,Maureen O. Meade,Ker-Ai Lee,Richard J. Cook +6 more
TL;DR: When administered in prophylactic doses to critically ill patients with a wide range of calculated creatinine clearances, there was no evidence of bioaccumulation of dalteparin and it may be an attractive alternative agent for thromboprophylaxis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thromboprophylaxis for Patients With Cancer and Central Venous Catheters : A Systematic Review and a Meta-analysis
Elie A. Akl,Ganesh S. Kamath,Victor E D Yosuico,Seoyoung C. Kim,Maddalena Barba,Francesca Sperati,Deborah J. Cook,Holger J. Schünemann +7 more
TL;DR: The objective of this systematic review was to determine the efficacy and safety of anticoagulation in reducing mortality and thromboembolic events in cancer patients with a CVC.
Journal ArticleDOI
A survey of Canadian intensivists' resuscitation practices in early septic shock.
TL;DR: In this article, a scenario-based self-administered national survey was sent out to Canadian critical care physicians to obtain information on several aspects of resuscitation in early septic shock, including monitoring and resuscitation endpoints, fluid administration, red blood cell transfusion triggers and use of inotropes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Venous thromboembolism and bleeding in critically ill patients with severe renal insufficiency receiving dalteparin thromboprophylaxis: prevalence, incidence and risk factors
Deborah J. Cook,James D. Douketis,Maureen O. Meade,Gordon H. Guyatt,Nicole Zytaruk,John Granton,Yoanna Skrobik,Martin Albert,Robert A. Fowler,Paul C. Hébert,G. Pagliarello,Jan O. Friedrich,Andreas Freitag,Tim Karachi,Christian Rabbat,Diane Heels-Ansdell,William Geerts,Mark Crowther +17 more
TL;DR: In ICU patients with renal insufficiency, the incidence of DVT and major bleeding are considerable but appear related to patient comorbidities rather than to an inadequate or excessive anticoagulant from thromboprophylaxis with dalteparin.
