Journal ArticleDOI
High plasma glutamate and low glutamine-to-glutamate ratio are associated with type 2 diabetes: Case-cohort study within the PREDIMED trial
Xiaoran Liu,Yan Zheng,Marta Guasch-Ferré,Miguel Ruiz-Canela,Estefanía Toledo,Clary B. Clish,Liming Liang,Cristina Razquin,Dolores Corella,Ramon Estruch,Montserrat Fitó,Enrique Gómez-Gracia,Fernando Arós,Emilio Ros,José Lapetra,Miquel Fiol,Lluis Serra-Majem,Christopher Papandreou,Miguel Ángel Martínez-González,Frank B. Hu,Jordi Salas-Salvadó +20 more
TL;DR: Higher levels of glutamate and lower levels of glutamine were associated with increased risk of type-2 diabetes in a Spanish population at high risk for CVD, and Mediterranean diet might mitigate the association between the imbalance of glutamines and glutamate and T2D risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
History of infertility and risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus: a prospective cohort study
Deirdre K Tobias,Deirdre K Tobias,Audrey J. Gaskins,Stacey A. Missmer,Stacey A. Missmer,Frank B. Hu,Frank B. Hu,JoAnn E. Manson,JoAnn E. Manson,Germaine M. Buck Louis,Cuilin Zhang,Jorge E. Chavarro,Jorge E. Chavarro +12 more
TL;DR: These novel findings suggest a history of infertility, particularly that related to ovulation disorders and tubal blockage, is significantly associated with a higher risk of type 2 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma concentration of trimethylamine-N-oxide and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus.
Peiyun Li,Chunrong Zhong,Shuzhen Li,Taoping Sun,Hao Huang,Xi Chen,Yalun Zhu,Xiaoli Hu,Xiaobo Peng,Xu Zhang,Wei Bao,Zhilei Shan,Jinquan Cheng,Frank B. Hu,Nianhong Yang,Liegang Liu +15 more
TL;DR: Consistent findings from this 2-phase study indicate a positive association between plasma TMAO concentrations and GDM, and future studies are warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phobic Anxiety Is Associated With Higher Serum Concentrations of Adipokines and Cytokines in Women With Diabetes
Aoife M. Brennan,Jessica L. Fargnoli,Catherine J. Williams,Tricia Li,Walter C. Willett,Ichiro Kawachi,Lu Qi,Frank B. Hu,Christos S. Mantzoros +8 more
TL;DR: High levels of phobic anxiety are associated with increased levels of leptin and inflammatory markers, which may in part explain the previously observed relationship between anxiety and other psychosocial disorders with CVD.
Journal ArticleDOI
BMI versus the metabolic syndrome in relation to cardiovascular risk in elderly Chinese individuals.
TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper conducted a population-based cross-sectional study in an urban sample of 2,334 elderly subjects (943 men and 1,391 women) Subjects were classified by BMI (≤185, 2 ) and the presence or absence of metabolic syndrome, which was defined by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria CVDs included clinically diagnosed coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, and peripheral arterial disease (PAD).
