Journal ArticleDOI

Sexually transmitted infections among heterosexual male clients of female sex workers in China: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

TL;DR: There is a need for greater attention to clients’ sexual risk and disease prevalence in China’s STI research agenda in order to inform effective prevention policies, and heterogeneity across studies and sampling limitations prevent definitive conclusions about how the prevalence of STIs in this population compares to the general population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Moderate-intensity exercise alters markers of alternative activation in circulating monocytes in females: a putative role for PPARγ

TL;DR: Exercise participation suppressed M1 markers and induced M2 markers in monocytes, potentially via PPARγ-triggered signalling, and these effects may contribute (perhaps via priming of monocytes for differentiation into M2 tissue-macrophages) to improved systemic insulin sensitivity in exercising participants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Breast cancer, early stage

Tony Mok, +521 more
- 01 Sep 2012 -
TL;DR: Post-hoc analyses of efficacy outcomes in MISSION suggest that advanced NSCLC patients with EGFR mutations may derive a survival benefit from receiving 3rd/4th line sorafenib, and these results must be interpreted with caution due to the small, non-representative nature of the genetic biomarker subpopulation analyzed in this trial.
Journal ArticleDOI

Aberrant DNA methylation of mTOR pathway genes promotes inflammatory activation of immune cells in diabetic kidney disease

TL;DR: Up-regulation of DNMT1 in diabetic immune cells induces aberrant cytosine methylation of the upstream regulators of mTOR, leading to pathogenic activation of the mTOR pathway and consequent inflammation in diabetic kidneys, highlighting therapeutic potential of targeting epigenetic events in immune system for treating DKD.

Peer Reviewed: Using Small-Area Estimation Method to Calculate County-Level Prevalence of Obesity in Mississippi, 2007-2009

TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the scope, socioeconomic and geographic characteristics, and temporal trends of the obesity epidemic in Mississippi and identify the counties, regions, and sub-populations that are most affected by obesity.
