The effect of volumetric breast density on the risk of screen-detected and interval breast cancers: a cohort study
Johanna O. P. Wanders,Katharina Holland,Nico Karssemeijer,Petra H.M. Peeters,Petra H.M. Peeters,Wouter B. Veldhuis,Ritse M. Mann,Carla H. van Gils +7 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that both absolute dense volume and percentage dense volume are strong markers of breast cancer risk, but that they are even stronger markers for predicting the occurrence of tumors that are not detected during mammography breast cancer screening.
Journal ArticleDOI
Air pollution and incidence of cancers of the stomach and the upper aerodigestive tract in the European Study of Cohorts for Air Pollution Effects (ESCAPE).
Gabriele Nagel,Massimo Stafoggia,Marie Pedersen,Zorana Jovanovic Andersen,Claudia Galassi,Jule Munkenast,Andrea Jaensch,Johan Nilsson Sommar,Bertil Forsberg,David Olsson,Bente Oftedal,Norun Hjertager Krog,Geir Aamodt,Andrei Pyko,Göran Pershagen,Michal Korek,Ulf de Faire,Nancy L. Pedersen,Claes-Göran Östenson,L Fratiglioni,Mette Sørensen,Anne Tjønneland,Petra H.M. Peeters,Bas Bueno-de-Mesquita,Roel Vermeulen,Marloes Eeftens,Michelle Plusquin,Timothy J. Key,Hans Concin,Alois Lang,Meng Wang,Ming-Yi Tsai,Sara Grioni,Alessandro Marcon,Vittorio Krogh,Fulvio Ricceri,Carlotta Sacerdote,Andrea Ranzi,Giulia Cesaroni,Francesco Forastiere,Ibon Tamayo-Uria,Pilar Amiano,Miren Dorronsoro,Kees de Hoogh,Rob Beelen,Paolo Vineis,Bert Brunekreef,Gerard Hoek,Ole Raaschou-Nielsen,Gudrun Weinmayr +49 more
TL;DR: This large multicentre cohort study shows an association between long‐term exposure to PM2.5 and gastric cancer, but not UADT cancers, suggesting that air pollution may contribute to Gastric cancer risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Validation of previously identified serum biomarkers for breast cancer with SELDI-TOF MS: a case control study
Annemieke W J van Winden,Annemieke W J van Winden,Marie-Christine W. Gast,Jos H. Beijnen,Jos H. Beijnen,Emiel J. Th. Rutgers,Diederick E. Grobbee,Petra H.M. Peeters,Carla H. van Gils +8 more
TL;DR: This study validate three proteins previously reported to be discriminative between breast cancer cases and healthy controls with surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF MS).
Journal ArticleDOI
Coffee and tea consumption and the risk of ovarian cancer: a prospective cohort study and updated meta-analysis
Marieke G.M. Braem,N. Charlotte Onland-Moret,Leo J. Schouten,Anne Tjønneland,Louise Hansen,Christina C. Dahm,Kim Overvad,Annekatrin Lukanova,Laure Dossus,Anna Floegel,Heiner Boeing,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Nathalie Chabbert-Buffet,Guy Fagherazzi,Guy Fagherazzi,Antonia Trichopoulou,Vassiliki Benetou,Ioulia Goufa,Valeria Pala,Rocco Galasso,Amalia Mattiello,Carlotta Sacerdote,Domenico Palli,Rosario Tumino,Inger T. Tsilidis,Kay Tee Kaw,H. Bas Bueno-de-Mesquita,Vincent K. Dik,Sabina Rinaldi,Veronika Fedirko,Teresa Norat,Elio Riboli,Rudolf Kaaks,Petra H.M. Peeters +49 more
TL;DR: Investigation of whether coffee intakes, tea intakes, or both are associated with the risk of epithelial ovarian cancer found no evidence of an association and epidemiologic studies do not provide sufficient evidence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk of endometrial cancer in relationship to cigarette smoking: results from the EPIC study.
Mustafa Al-Zoughool,Laure Dossus,Laure Dossus,Rudolf Kaaks,Rudolf Kaaks,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Anne Tjønneland,Anja Olsen,Kim Overvad,Marie-Christine Boutron-Ruault,Estelle Gauthier,Jakob Linseisen,Jenny Chang-Claude,Heiner Boeing,Mandy Schulz,Antonia Trichopoulou,Travezea Chryssa,Dimitrios Trichopoulos,Franco Berrino,Domenico Palli,Amalia Mattiello,Rosario Tumino,Carlotta Sacerdote,H. Allen,Timothy J. Key,Mazda Jenab,Anne E. Cust,Sabina Rinaldi,Elio Riboli +45 more
TL;DR: The reduction of endometrial cancer risk observed among postmenopausal women does not have direct public health relevance since cigarette smoking is the main known risk factor for cancer.
