West,Liang Xu,Miho Yasuda,Xinzhi Zhang,Paul Mitchell,Tien Yin Wong,Tien Yin Wong,Tien Yin Wong +38 more
TL;DR: Longer diabetes duration and poorer glycemic and blood pressure control are strongly associated with DR, and these data highlight the substantial worldwide public health burden of DR and the importance of modifiable risk factors in its occurrence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of estimated glomerular filtration rate and albuminuria with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in general population cohorts: a collaborative meta-analysis.

TL;DR: In this article, a meta-analysis of general population cohorts was conducted to assess the independent and combined associations of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and albuminuria with mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global prevalence of age-related macular degeneration and disease burden projection for 2020 and 2040: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Wan-Ling Wong,Xinyi Su,Xiang Li,Chui Ming Gemmy Cheung,Ronald Klein,Ching-Yu Cheng,Tien Yin Wong +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors did a systematic literature review to identify all population-based studies of age-related macular degeneration published before May, 2013, using retinal photographs and standardised grading classifications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proposed international clinical diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema disease severity scales
Charles P. Wilkinson,Frederick L. Ferris,Ronald Klein,Paul P. Lee,Carl-David Agardh,Matthew D. Davis,Diana G. Dills,Anselm Kampik,R Pararajasegaram,T Juan Verdaguer +9 more
TL;DR: There seems to be a genuine need for consistent international clinical classification systems for diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema that are supported with solid evidence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Causes and prevalence of visual impairment among adults in the United States.
Nathan Congdon,O'Colmain Bj,Caroline C W Klaver,Ronald Klein,Beatriz Munoz,David S. Friedman,John H. Kempen,Hugh R. Taylor,Paul Mitchell +8 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of visual disabilities will increase markedly during the next 20 years, owing largely to the aging of the US population.
