Journal ArticleDOI

Low rates of acceptance of BRCA1 and BRCA2 test results among African American women at increased risk for hereditary breast-ovarian cancer.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that acceptance of BRCA1/2 test results may be limited among African American women, and being married and having less certainty about one's cancer risk may motivate acceptance of the test results.
Journal ArticleDOI

Exercise lowers estrogen and progesterone levels in premenopausal women at high risk of breast cancer.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess whether exercise intervention in premenopausal women at increased breast cancer risk reduces estrogen or progesterone levels, and the results suggest value in exercise interventions to reduce hormone levels in high-risk women with few side effects and the potential for incremental benefits to surgical or pharmacologic interventions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polygenic risk scores and breast and epithelial ovarian cancer risks for carriers of BRCA1 and BRCA2 pathogenic variants.

Daniel R. Barnes, +209 more
- 15 Jul 2020 -
TL;DR: Population-based PRS are strongly associated with BC and EOC risks for BRCA1/2 carriers and predict substantial absolute risk differences for women at PRS distribution extremes, and there was evidence for differences in associations by predicted variant effects on protein expression.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prophylactic oophorectomy in women at increased cancer risk

TL;DR: Bilateral prophylactic salpingo-oophorectomy is widely used for cancer risk reduction in women with BRCA1/2 mutations but may be accompanied by menopausal symptoms, impaired quality of life and accelerated bone loss.
