TL;DR: In this paper, high dispersive nanospheres of MnFe2O4 were prepared by template free hydrothermal method, and they have 47.3-nm average diameter, narrow size distribution, and good crystallinity with average crystallite size about 22 nm.
Abstract: Highly dispersive nanospheres of MnFe2O4 are prepared by template free hydrothermal method. The nanospheres have 47.3-nm average diameter, narrow size distribution, and good crystallinity with average crystallite size about 22 nm. The reaction temperature strongly affects the morphology, and high temperature is found to be responsible for growth of uniform nanospheres. Raman spectroscopy reveals high purity of prepared nanospheres. High saturation magnetization (78.3 emu/g), low coercivity (45 Oe, 1 Oe = 79.5775 Acm−1), low remanence (5.32 emu/g), and high anisotropy constant 2.84 × 104 J/m3 (10 times larger than bulk) are observed at room temperatures. The nearly superparamagnetic behavior is due to comparable size of nanospheres with superparamagnetic critical diameter Dcrspam. The high value of Keff may be due to coupling between the pinned moment in the amorphous shell and the magnetic moment in the core of the nanospheres. The nanospheres show prominent optical absorption in the visible region, and the indirect band gap is estimated to be 0.98 eV from the transmission spectrum. The prepared Mn ferrite has potential applications in biomedicine and photocatalysis.

TL;DR: It is found that the synergistic antibacterial effects of silver with four conventional antibiotics was correlated with the blockage of bacterial Trx system by silver, and the synergy came along with the production of reactive oxygen species.
Abstract: Thiol-dependent enzymes, including the thioredoxin (Trx) and glutathione (GSH) systems, have recently been found as promising bactericidal targets in multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. We previously discovered that silver acted synergistically with ebselen in the inhibition of the Trx system and also resulted in a fast depletion of GSH in Gram-negative bacteria. Silver has been found by others to improve the sensitivity of bacteria to certain conventional antibiotics. Here, we found that the synergistic antibacterial effects of silver with four conventional antibiotics was correlated with the blockage of bacterial Trx system by silver. The synergistic antibacterial effect came along with the production of reactive oxygen species. All these results suggested that silver primarily enhanced the bactericidal activities of conventional antibiotics towards Gram-negative strains through the upregulation of ROS production.

TL;DR: In this paper, the feasibility of applying opportunistic vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication with delay/disruption tolerant networking (DTN) nature, due primarily to its flexibility and cost-efficiency in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), is investigated.
Abstract: Electric vehicles (EVs) are being introduced by different manufacturers, thanks to their environment-friendly perspective to alleviate CO2 pollution. In this paper, the proposed EV charging management scheme enables pre-empted charging service for heterogeneous EVs ( depends on different charging capabilities, brands, etc. ). Particularly, the anticipated EVs’ charging reservations information, including their arrival time and expected charging time at charging stations (CSs), are brought for planning CS-selection (where to charge). Along with applying ubiquitous cellular network communication to deliver ( delay tolerant ) EVs’ charging reservations, we further study the feasibility of applying opportunistic vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication with delay/disruption tolerant networking (DTN) nature, due primarily to its flexibility and cost-efficiency in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). Evaluation results under the realistic Helsinki city scenario show that applying the V2V-based charging reservation is promisingly cost-efficient in terms of communication overhead, while achieving a comparable charging performance to apply cellular network communication.

TL;DR: In this article, a quasistatic Nishihara model for transient and steady-state creep is modified by adding a strain-triggered inertial element in series, resulting in a phase of quadratic accelerating creep.
Abstract: SUMMARY ManygentlydippingtranslationalrockslideshavetakenplaceinredJurassicstratainWanzhou which is located in the middle bank area of the Three Gorges Reservoir, China. In order to study the mechanism of these translational rock slides, conventional triaxial tests and creep tests on sandstone specimens from red Jurassic strata in Wanzhou are performed, and the rheological properties of the sandstone at accelerating creep stage are discussed. The quasistatic Nishihara model for transient and steady-state creep is modified by adding a straintriggered inertial element in series, resulting in a phase of quadratic accelerating creep. The model fits the experimental data at all stages of creep, allowing its parameters to be inferred from the data. Finally, a sensitivity study for the analytical solution of the proposed model is carried out, showing the effects of the inertial element and stress level on the creep strain of sandstone.
