TL;DR: A robust object tracking algorithm based on a sparse collaborative model that exploits both holistic templates and local representations to account for drastic appearance changes is proposed and performs favorably against several state-of-the-art algorithms.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a robust object tracking algorithm based on a sparse collaborative model that exploits both holistic templates and local representations to account for drastic appearance changes. Within the proposed collaborative appearance model, we develop a sparse discriminative classifier (SDC) and sparse generative model (SGM) for object tracking. In the SDC module, we present a classifier that separates the foreground object from the background based on holistic templates. In the SGM module, we propose a histogram-based method that takes the spatial information of each local patch into consideration. The update scheme considers both the most recent observations and original templates, thereby enabling the proposed algorithm to deal with appearance changes effectively and alleviate the tracking drift problem. Numerous experiments on various challenging videos demonstrate that the proposed tracker performs favorably against several state-of-the-art algorithms.

TL;DR: A feasible solution that enables offloading for real-time traffic management in fog-based IoV systems, aiming to minimize the average response time for events reported by vehicles is put forward.
Abstract: Fog computing has been merged with Internet of Vehicle (IoV) systems to provide computational resources for end users, by which low latency can be guaranteed. In this paper, we put forward a feasible solution that enables offloading for real-time traffic management in fog-based IoV systems, aiming to minimize the average response time for events reported by vehicles. First, we construct a distributed city-wide traffic management system, in which vehicles close to road side units can be utilized as fog nodes. Then, we model parked and moving vehicle-based fog nodes according to a queueing theory, and draw the conclusion that moving vehicle-based fog nodes can be modeled as an $M/M/1$ queue. An approximate approach is developed to solve the offloading optimization problem by decomposing it into two subproblems and scheduling traffic flows among different fog nodes. Performance analyses based on a real-world taxi-trajectory datasets are conducted to illustrate the superiority of our method.

TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid material based on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and form-stable polymer phase change materials (PCMs) is reported.
Abstract: The development of solar energy conversion materials is critical to the growth of a sustainable energy infrastructure in the coming years. A novel hybrid material based on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and form-stable polymer phase change materials (PCMs) is reported. The obtained materials have UV-vis sunlight harvesting, light-thermal conversion, thermal energy storage, and form-stable effects. Judicious application of this efficient photothermal conversion to SWNTs has opened up a rich field of energy materials based on novel SWNT/PCM composits with enhanced performance in energy conversion and storage.

TL;DR: A new fluorescent probe N-butyl-4,5-di[2-(phenylamino)ethylamino]-1,8-naphthalimide 1 senses only Cu(II) among heavy and transition metal (HTM) ions by means of a colorimetric method with a large red-shift in emission attributed to the deprotonation of the secondary amines as a receptor conjugated to the naphthalIMide fluorophore.

TL;DR: In this paper, a general approach is developed for the synthesis of 2D porous carbon nanosheets (PCNS) from bio-sources derived carbon precursors (gelatin) by an integrated procedure of intercalation, pyrolysis, and activation.
Abstract: A general approach is developed for the synthesis of 2D porous carbon nanosheets (PCNS) from bio-sources derived carbon precursors (gelatin) by an integrated procedure of intercalation, pyrolysis, and activation. Montmorillonite with layered nanospace is used as a nanotemplate or nanoreactor to confine and modulate the transformation of gelatin, further leading to the formation of 2D nanosheet-shaped carbon materials. The as-made 2D PCNS exhibits a significantly improved rate performance, with a high specific capacitance of 246 F g−1 and capacitance retention of 82% at 100 A g−1, being nearly twice that of microsized activated carbon particulates directly from gelatin (131 F g−1, 44%). The shortened ion transport distance in the nanoscaled dimension and modulated porous structure is responsible for such an enhanced superior rate capability. More importantly, the present strategy can be extended to other bio-sources to create 2D PCNS as electrode materials with high-rate performance. This will also provide a potential strategy for configuring 2D nanostructured carbon electrode materials with a short ion transport distance for supercapacitors and other carbon-related energy storage and conversion devices.
