TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that to maintain a sustainable economic growth and support the associated technological advancements in the future there will be demand for a larger labor force, and they also argue that since the earth's population carrying capacity largely depends on the technological capability and the life style of the society the world should not be scared of a planned population growth.
Abstract: Faced with a phenomenal growth of population the world has embarked upon a population stabilization policy that has led the fertility rate to fall and the work-age population for the future to shrink, pushing the world to a serious economic crisis more particularly after 2050 when only a decreasing size of the work-age population will be available to look after an increasing size of dependent population. The paper argues that to maintain a sustainable economic growth and support the associated technological advancements in the future there will be demand for a larger labor force. It notes that the industrialized countries are now managing with the migrant population drawn mostly from the high fertility low income countries. But in the world context this is only a zero-sum game without increasing the stock of world’s total labor force. Therefore world population needs to grow to meet the growing demand for a larger labor force for economic sustainability. It also argues that since the earth’s population carrying capacity largely depends on the technological capability and the life style of the society the world should not be scared of a planned population growth. The paper concludes that in the future the social engineering and technological innovations may give birth to an ethics and environment friendly ‘slim-green’ life style founded on the principle of ‘simple living and high thinking’, which will increase the earth’s population absorption capacity. Along with the issue of increasing earth’s population absorption capacity, the issue of producing more food in the regions where it is needed should be addressed with political will and resolutions of the global community.

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of global financial crisis on bank efficiency in Saudi Arabia was examined using the data envelopment analysis (DEA) during 2006-2014, and the results revealed that banks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are inefficient in terms of technical and scale efficiency.
Abstract: Aim: The global financial crisis in 2008 has obstructed almost every bank around the world. This study examines the impact of global financial crisis on bank efficiency in Saudi Arabia. Design / Research methods: This study examines the impact of global financial crisis in bank efficiency applying the data envelopment analysis (DEA) during 2006-2014. Eleven commercial banks were examined from Saudi banking sector which covers almost half of total banks of Saudi Arabia. Scale efficiency, technical efficiency and productivity of banks have been examined for assessing the impact of financial crisis overtime. Conclusions / findings: Results reveal that banks in Saudi Arabia are inefficient in terms of technical and scale efficiency. The results also reveal these banks are not immune to the global financial crisis. Though only one bank has kept their unit efficient positions during the study period, the impact of global crisis on bank efficiency is found visible among other banks. The robustness of this study is also tested. Originality / value of the article: The importance of this study is twofold. First, examining bank efficiency with special attention to financial crisis. Second, Saudi Arabia needs sustainable growth to be ensured. Hence, examination of impact of financial crisis on bank efficiency of Saudi Arabia will surely help the policy makers for future planning. Implications of the research: The findings of this study will assist the policy makers in Saudi Arabia for taking corrective measure in advance in case of such future financial crisis. Moreover, the results will be used by the managers of the respective banks for decision making and problem solving.

TL;DR: In this paper, the global, diffuse and direct solar radiation empirically on a horizontal surface for the divisional district "Khulna" in Bangladesh (latitude 22o47΄N and longitude 89o34΄E) as well as predict correlations for it by using several meteorological data for 32 years between 1980 and 2012.
Abstract: This study is accomplished to calculate global, diffuse and direct solar radiation empirically on a horizontal surface for the divisional district “Khulna” in Bangladesh (latitude 22o47΄N and longitude 89o34΄E) as well as to predict correlations for it by using several meteorological data for 32 years between 1980 and 2012. The global radiation is found to be maximum in the month of April and minimum in the month of December here. The estimated values of the Angstrom’s regression constants a and b are 0.2388 and 0.5228 respectively. The other regression constants were also computed and the correlations proposed for Khulna can be used in future for the estimation of global, diffuse and direct solar radiation if the meteorological parameters remain available.

TL;DR: A concept about SCADA system using Cognitive Radio based IEEE 802.22 standard for overcoming all existing limitations of SCADA's communication media for future power system is presented where details design, analyses of feasibility and benefits over wired and other wireless systems are also described.
Abstract: Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) is used in modern power system for monitoring, controlling, gathering the information, transfer to information back to a central station, carry out necessary analysis and control carry out necessary analysis and control. A SCADA system involves the integrated technologies of computer, communication, electric devices etc. Here the communication media provides the physical medium for transferring, controlling and acquisition of data within SCADA from remote locations. Although wireless communications media become an attractive option as communications networks for SCADA system, compared with wired communications, wireless communications in power system environments presents a number of security and reliability issues. As in SCADA system the communication media plays an important role, to meet objectives of the SCADA systems, different wired and wireless communications media have been applied in modern power system environment. This paper presents a concept about SCADA system using Cognitive Radio based IEEE 802.22 standard for overcoming all existing limitations of SCADA's communication media for future power system where details design, analyses of feasibility and benefits over wired and other wireless systems are also described.

TL;DR: In this paper, a low-cost portable IoT based system which is comprised of a Geiger counter, Wemos microcontroller, temperature, humidity, and light ambient sensor and an online database was developed.
Abstract: Continuous monitoring of radiation is essential for a location to protect its inhabitants from serious health hazard. It is also important to analyze the impact of radiation on the environment. We have developed a low-cost portable IoT based system which is comprised of a Geiger counter, Wemos microcontroller, temperature, humidity, and light ambient sensor and an online database. We have collected radiation data along with temperature, humidity and light intensity at different time frame in different weather in Chittagong City. These data can be stored and observed live from the web interface. We found that in sunny weather radiation is as high as 3000 microSieverts during the afternoon. The correlation between the measured radiation, temperature, humidity and light intensity are studied.
