Abstract: In this study, the melting behavior of isothermally crystallized polytri- methylene terephthalate (PTT) was investigated. Multiple melting behaviors in DSC heating trace were found because two populations of lamellar stacks were formed during primary crystallization and the recrystallization at heating process, respectively. This fact could be also confirmed from the result of optical microscopy observation. The Hoffman–Weeks equation was applied to obtain equilibrium melting temperature (T). The T value of PTT is about 525 K, which is 10 K higher than that reported. Combining the enthalpy of fusion from the DSC result and the degree of crystallinity from WAXD result, the value of the equilibrium-melting enthalpy ΔH was deduced to be approximately 28.8 kJ mol−1. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract: A two-step method was developed for the preparation of food-grade wax. The first step involved the solventdefatting of crude wax, which gave a dark brown, dry, powdered wax with a m.p. of 75–79°C. The major impurity in the defatted wax was the dark brown resinous matter. In the second step, the resinous matter was removed by bleaching with sodium borohydride in isopropanol. This step yielded a pale yellow, odorless wax with purity higher than 99% and with a m.p. of 80–83°C. The resinous matter was a mixture of aliphatic aldehydes, fatty alcohols, and FA. High-temperature GC analysis of the purified rice bran wax indicated that it contained 11 major and 9 minor types of saturated wax esters. The major and minor peaks contained C44–C64 and C45–C59 wax esters, respectively. Rice bran wax was mainly a mixture of saturated esters of C22 and C24 FA and C24 to C40 aliphatic alcohols, with C24 and C30 being the predominant FA and fatty alcohol, respectively. The alcohol portion of the wax esters also contained small amounts of branched and odd carbon number fatty alcohols.

Abstract: We investigated rechargeable aluminum (Al) batteries composed of an Al negative electrode, a graphite positive electrode, and an ionic liquid (IL) electrolyte at temperatures down to −40 °C. The reversible battery discharge capacity at low temperatures could be superior to that at room temperature. In situ/operando electrochemical and synchrotron X-ray diffraction experiments combined with theoretical modeling revealed stable AlCl 4 − /graphite intercalation up to stage 3 at low temperatures, whereas intercalation was reversible up to stage 4 at room temperature (RT). The higher-degree anion/graphite intercalation at low temperatures affords rechargeable Al battery with higher discharge voltage (up to 2.5 V, a record for Al battery) and energy density. A remarkable cycle life of >20,000 cycles at a rate of 6C (10 minutes charge time) was achievable for Al battery operating at low temperatures, corresponding to a >50-year battery life if charged/discharged once daily.

Abstract: This paper presents a review with a concise description and analysis of the fundamentals, characteristics, analytical details, merits, and drawbacks associated with existing methods in frequency and time domain for harmonic analysis in practical power networks. The description and analysis are centered on methods developed in the harmonic domain, hybrid frequency-time domain, and time domain, respectively. Validation of the reviewed methods for harmonic analysis, against one of the widely accepted digital simulators, such as EMTP, EMTDC, or MATLAB/SIMULINK, is reported in the cited individual contributions.
