TL;DR: In this article, a very compact decoupling network based on reactive lumped elements is presented for a two-element closely spaced array, which can be analytically designed using the even-odd mode analysis.
Abstract: Without the need of any transmission line, a very compact decoupling network based on reactive lumped elements is presented for a two-element closely spaced array. The lumped network, consisting of two series and four shunt elements, can be analytically designed using the even-odd mode analysis. In the even mode, the half-circuit of the decoupling network is identical to an L-section matching network, while in the odd mode it is equivalent to a π-section one. The proposed decoupling network can deal with the matching conditions of the even and odd modes independently so as to simultaneously achieve good impedance matching and port isolation of the whole antenna array. The design principle, formulation, and experimental results including the radiation characteristics are introduced.

TL;DR: The maximal values of the dynamic surface elasticity almost coincided with the corresponding data for the recently investigated solutions of β-lactoglobulin, thereby indicating a similar unfolding mechanism.
Abstract: Measurements of the surface dilational elasticity close to equilibrium did not indicate significant distinctions in the surface conformation of different forms of bovine serum albumin (BSA) in a broad pH range. At the same time, the protein denaturation in the surface layer under the influence of guanidine hydrochloride led to strong changes in the kinetic dependencies of the dynamic surface elasticity if the denaturant concentration exceeded a critical value. It was shown that the BSA unfolding at the solution surface occurred at lower denaturant concentrations than in the bulk phase. In the former case, the unfolding resulted in the formation of loops and tails at surface pressures above 12 mN/m. The maximal values of the dynamic surface elasticity almost coincided with the corresponding data for the recently investigated solutions of β-lactoglobulin, thereby indicating a similar unfolding mechanism.

TL;DR: A Cu current collector formed with ultrathin multilayer graphene grown via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) was used as an artificial layer to stabilize the electrode interface and sandwich-deposited Li with Cu to alleviate the big hurdle (initial capacity loss) in anode-free batteries.
Abstract: The will to circumvent capacity fading, Li dendrite formation, and low coulombic efficiency in anode-free Li-metal batteries (AFLMBs) requires a radical change in the science underpinning new materials discovery, battery design, and understanding electrode interfaces. Herein, a Cu current collector formed with ultrathin multilayer graphene grown via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) was used as an artificial layer to stabilize the electrode interface and sandwich-deposited Li with Cu. A multilayer graphene film's superior strength, chemical stability, and flexibility make it an excellent choice to modify a Cu electrode. Fabricating an anode bigger than the cathode improved the alignment of the electrodes during assembly, minimizing interfacial stress. Here, 19 mm electrodes when paired with a commercial LiFePO4 cathode (mass loading: ∼12 mg cm−2) delivered the first-cycle discharge capacities of 147 and 151 mA h g−1 for bare and multilayer-graphene-protected electrodes, respectively, which could alleviate the big hurdle (initial capacity loss) in anode-free batteries. After 100 round-trip cycles, bare Cu and multilayer-graphene-protected electrodes retained ∼46 and ∼61% of their initial capacities, respectively, in an ether-based electrolyte at the rate of 0.1 C.

TL;DR: Experiments on a 1-kW PV system show satisfactory results of the power management and the unity power factor at the utility side and a combined grid-connection/power-factor-correction technique for a photovoltaic system is proposed.
Abstract: A combined grid-connection/power-factor-correction technique for a photovoltaic (PV) system is proposed in this letter. A maximum power point tracking dc/dc converter served as a charger for the battery bank. A bidirectional inverter is applied as a generator/discharger during daytime, supplying power to the load. The inverter can also be used as a charger to maintain the minimum required voltage level of the batteries when the PV power is insufficient. Experiments on a 1-kW PV system show satisfactory results of the power management and the unity power factor at the utility side.

TL;DR: The experimental and simulation results have indicated a simple route for the discovery of new metal alloyed catalysts with superior anti-CO poisoning ability and low usage of Pt and Ru for fuel cell applications.
Abstract: The finding of new metal alloyed nanocrystals (NCs) with high catalytic activity and low cost to replace PtRu NCs is a critical step toward the commercialization of fuel cells. In this work, a simple cation replacement reaction was utilized to synthesize a new type of ternary Fe1–xPtRux NCs from binary FePt NCs. The detailed structural transformation from binary FePt NCs to ternary Fe1–xPtRux NCs was analyzed by X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). Ternary Fe35Pt40Ru25, Fe31Pt40Ru29, and Fe17Pt40Ru43 NCs exhibit superior catalytic ability to withstand CO poisoning in methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) than do binary NCs (FePt and J-M PtRu). Also, the Fe31Pt40Ru29 NCs had the highest alloying extent and the lowest onset potential among the ternary NCs. Furthermore, the origin for the superior CO resistance of ternary Fe1–xPtRux NCs was investigated by determining the adsorption energy of CO on the NCs’ surfaces and the charge transfer from Fe/Ru to Pt using a simulation based on density functional theory.
