Abstract: Novel compositions for increasing the growth of vegetables comprising a growth increasing amount of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein either R 1 is hydrogen, R 2 is hydrogen and R 3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, nitro in the 2- or 4-position, methyl in the 2-, 3- or 4-position, chlorine in the 3- or 4-position and bromine or --CF 3 in the 4-position or R 2 is nitro in the 2 position and R 3 is nitro or --CF 3 in the 4 position or R 1 is 2-NO 2 , R 2 is 4-NO 2 and R 3 is 6-NO 2 or R 2 is 6-NO 2 and R 3 is 4-CF 3 and their non-toxic, acid addition salts and an agricultural carrier and a method of increasing the growth of vegetables.
