TL;DR: The experimental realization of nanofiber Bragg grating (NFBG) is presented by drilling periodic nano-grooves on a subwavelength-diameter silica fiber using focused ion beam milling technique, which results in polarization-selective modes in the nan ofiber cavity.
Abstract: We present the experimental realization of nanofiber Bragg grating (NFBG) by drilling periodic nano-grooves on a subwavelength-diameter silica fiber using focused ion beam milling technique. Using such NFBG structures we have realized nanofiber cavity systems. The typical finesse of such nanofiber cavity is F ∼ 20 - 120 and the on-resonance transmission is ∼ 30 - 80%. Moreover the structural symmetry of such NFBGs results in polarization-selective modes in the nanofiber cavity. Due to the strong confinement of the field in the guided mode, such a nanofiber cavity can become a promising workbench for cavity QED.

TL;DR: A diode-pumped chirped-pulse regenerative amplifier with a cooled Yb:YLF crystal with high effective extraction efficiency is developed, attributed to reduced saturation fluence at low temperature and to a high effective pulse energy fluence during regenerative amplification.
Abstract: A diode-pumped chirped-pulse regenerative amplifier with a cooled Yb:YLF crystal has been developed. The output pulse energy is 30 mJ at 20-Hz repetition rate. A high effective extraction efficiency of 68% is obtained, which is attributed to reduced saturation fluence at low temperature and to a high effective pulse energy fluence during regenerative amplification. After pulse compression by use of a parallel grating pair, 18-mJ pulse energy and 795-fs pulse duration are obtained.

TL;DR: In this paper, a single-crystalline erbium compound is formed by coating a Si(100) substrate with an ErCl3∕ethanol solution, followed by rapid thermal oxidation and annealing.
Abstract: Optically active and electrically excitable erbium complexes on silicon are made by wet-chemical synthesis. The single-crystalline Er–Si–O compound is formed by coating a Si(100) substrate with an ErCl3∕ethanol solution, followed by rapid thermal oxidation and annealing. Room-temperature Er-related 1.53μm photoluminescence is observed with a peak linewidth as small as 4meV. The complexes can be excited directly into the Er intra-4f states, or indirectly, through photocarriers. Er concentrations as high as 14at.% are achieved, incorporated in a crystalline lattice with a 0.9nm periodicity. Thermal quenching at room temperature is only a factor 5, and the lifetime at 1.535μm is 200μs.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed recent developments in research into superconductivity in organic materials and provided good evidence for magnetically-mediated pairing in BEDT-TTF and BETS superconductors.
Abstract: Recent developments in research into superconductivity in organic materials are reviewed. In the epoch-defining quasi-one-dimensional TMTSF superconductors with T c ∼1 K, T c decreases monotonically with increasing pressure, as do signatures of spin fluctuations in the normal state, providing good evidence for magnetically-mediated pairing. Upper critical fields exceed the Zeeman-limiting field by several times, suggesting triplet pairing or a transition to an inhomogeneous superconducting state at high magnetic fields, while triplet pairing is ruled out at low fields by NMR Knight-shift measurements. Evidence for a spatially inhomogeneous superconducting state, Fulde–Ferrel–Larkin–Ovchinnikov state, which has long been sought in various superconducting systems, is now captured by thermodynamic and transport measurements for clean and highly two-dimensional BEDT-TTF and BETS superconductors. Some of the layered superconductors also serve as model systems for Mott physics on anisotropic triangular lattice....

TL;DR: In this article, the first evidence of a hot corino in a Bok globule was reported based on ALMA observations in the 1.2 mm band toward the low-mass Class 0 protostar IRAS 19347+0727 in B335.
Abstract: We report the first evidence of a hot corino in a Bok globule. This is based on ALMA observations in the 1.2 mm band toward the low-mass Class 0 protostar IRAS 19347+0727 in B335. Saturated complex organic molecules (COMs), CH3CHO, HCOOCH3, and NH2CHO, are detected in a compact region within a few 10 au around the protostar. Additionally, CH3OCH3, C2H5OH, C2H5CN, and CH3COCH3 are tentatively detected. Carbon-chain related molecules, CCH and c-C3H2, are also found in this source, whose distributions are extended over a scale of a few 100 au. On the other hand, sulfur-bearing molecules CS, SO, and SO2 have both compact and extended components. Fractional abundances of the COMs relative to H2 are found to be comparable to those in known hot corino sources. Though the COMs lines are as broad as 5–8 km s−1, they do not show obvious rotation motion in the present observation. Thus, the COMs mainly exist in a structure whose distribution is much smaller than the synthesized beam (058 × 052).
