TL;DR: Using propensity score matching models, it is found that politically connected firms enjoy a lower cost of equity capital than their non-connected peers, and that political connections are more valuable for firms with stronger ties to political power.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a bibliography of papers on the subject of power system reliability evaluation, which includes material which has become available since the publication of the four previous papers.
Abstract: This paper presents a bibliography of papers on the subject of power system reliability evaluation. Papers in such areas as: probabilistic load flow, probabilistic production costing, probabilistic transient stability evaluation, etc. have not been included except where they specifically address power system reliability evaluation. It includes material which has become available since the publication of the four previous papers. 'Bibliography on the Application of Probability Methods in Power System Reliability Evaluation', IEEE Trans. On Power Apparatus and Systems PAS-91, 1972, p.649-660; PAS-97, 1978, p.2235-2242; PAS-103, 1984, p.275-282 and IEEE Trans. On Power Systems, vol.3, no.4,p.1555-1564, 1984. The authors have endeavored to include papers which are readily archival on an international basis. Consequently, the proceedings of such conferences as: CIGRE, Inter-RAM, PMAPS, etc. are regretfully not included. Due to space constraints, only papers written in English were considered for inclusion in this bibliography. >

TL;DR: This is a summary report of the conference on Analytical Methods Validation: Bioavailability, Bioequivalence and Pharmacokinetic Studies, held from December 3 to 5, 1990 in the Washington, DC area and was sponsored by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
Abstract: This is a summary report of the conference on Analytical Methods Validation: Bioavailability, Bioequivalence and Pharmacokinetic Studies. The conference was held from December 3 to 5, 1990 in the Washington, DC area and was sponsored by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, US Food and Drug Administration, Federation International Pharmaceutique, Health Protection Branch (Canada) and Association of Official Analytical Chemists. The purpose of the report is to represent our assessment of the major agreements and issues discussed at the conference. The report is also intended to provide guiding principles for validation of analytical methods employed in bioavailability, bioequivalence and pharmacokinetic studies in man and animals. The objectives of the conference were: 1. To reach a consensus on what should be required in analytical methods validation and the procedures to establish validation; 2. To determine processes of application of the validation procedures in the bioavailability, bioequivalence and pharmacokinetic studies; 3. To develop a report on analytical methods validation (which may be referred to in developing future formal guidelines). Acceptable standards for documenting and validating analytical methods with regard to processes, parameters or data treatments were discussed because of their importance in assessment of pharmacokinetic, bioavailability and bioequivalence studies. Other topics which were considered essential in the conduct of pharmacokinetic studies or in establishing bioequivalency criteria, including measurement of drug metabolites and stereoselective determinations, were also deliberated.

TL;DR: Results from PHA skin tests conducted on 608 birds in seven studies representing passerines, waterfowl, upland game birds and raptors are examined and the only disadvantage identified is that hypersensitive individuals (outliers) could be missed.
Abstract: 1. Researchers involved in ecology and toxicology, as well as many other aspects of avian biology, use phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) skin testing as a means of evaluating the immune status of individuals. 2. Immune function, one measure of individual quality, can be used as a sensitive, non-lethal variable that may be negatively affected in animals exposed to degraded, contaminated or otherwise disturbed ecological zones. 3. Typically this test has been applied by challenging one wing web with the immunostimulant PHA, while the other ‘control’ wing is injected with phosphate buffered saline (PBS). Injection sites on the wing web are measured before and 24 h after injection with PHA or PBS. The immune response is considered to be the difference between the two wings. 4. Results from PHA skin tests conducted on 608 birds in seven studies representing passerines, waterfowl, upland game birds and raptors are examined. 5. Numerous advantages to eliminating the PBS injection as the experimental control are: (i) decrease by half, the time required for testing; (ii) decrease handling-related stress on the birds (proportional to handling time); (iii) reduce the probability of errors at injection time; (iv) spare the other wing for different tests or uses (e.g. tuberculin DTH testing); and (v) decrease the coefficient of variation that is due to measurement inaccuracies. 6. The only disadvantage identified is that hypersensitive individuals (outliers) could be missed, which in this case represents 2 of 608 individuals.
