TL;DR: In this article, the structure of sulfur-poly(acrylonitrile)-based Li-sulfur batteries is elucidated and correlated with the electrochemical performance of such devices.
Abstract: The structure of sulfur-poly(acrylonitrile)-based Li-sulfur batteries is elucidated and correlated with the electrochemical performance of such devices. Apart from the poly(acrylonitrile)-derived backbone, thioamide as well as poly(sulfide) structures are proposed. Furthermore, the intermediary formation of S8 during cycling and the role of the electrolyte in its reintegration during charging into are addressed. In summary, a comprehensive picture of the chemistry and electrochemistry of Li-sulfur batteries is presented.

TL;DR: Practical considerations and guidelines are provided in this tutorial review, and selected examples involving UV-VIS-NIR and IR absorption spectroscopy as well as electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) are presented to illustrate the potential and the applicability of this technique.
Abstract: The combination of reaction-oriented electrochemistry with species-focussed spectroscopy in spectroelectrochemistry (SEC) allows for a more complete analysis of single and multiple electron-transfer processes and redox reactions in general. Practical considerations and guidelines are provided in this tutorial review, and selected examples involving UV-VIS-NIR and IR absorption spectroscopy as well as electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) are presented to illustrate the potential and the applicability of this technique.

TL;DR: The transformation method is introduced as a powerful approach for both the simulation and the analysis of systems with uncertain model parameters based on the concept of α-cuts, a special implementation of fuzzy arithmetic that avoids the well-known effect of overestimation.

TL;DR: The possibility to realize non-Abelian interferometry (Aharonov-Bohm effect) and to study many-body dynamics of ultracold matter in external lattice gauge fields are discussed.
Abstract: We demonstrate how to create artificial external non-Abelian gauge potentials acting on cold atoms in optical lattices. The method employs atoms with k internal states, and laser assisted state sensitive tunneling, described by unitary k x k matrices. The single-particle dynamics in the case of intense U2 vector potentials lead to a generalized Hofstadter butterfly spectrum which shows a complex mothlike structure. We discuss the possibility to realize non-Abelian interferometry (Aharonov-Bohm effect) and to study many-body dynamics of ultracold matter in external lattice gauge fields.
