TL;DR: A new nutritional knowledge base of traditional foods from Black Sea Area countries will contribute to promote local biodiversity and sustainable diets by maintaining healthy dietary patterns within local cultures.
Abstract: BACKGROUND: Traditional foods are an important part of the culture, history, identity and heritage of a region or country and are key elements in dietary patterns. In most countries there is limited information on the nutritional composition of such foods and therefore there is a need to investigate, register and promote traditional foods. One of the aims within the ‘Sustainable exploitation of bioactive components from the Black Sea Area traditional foods’ (BaSeFood) project is to generate for the first time new data on the nutritional composition of traditional foods from six Black Sea Area countries to promote their sustainable development and exploitation. RESULTS: Thirty-three traditional foods were analysed in an accredited laboratory to determine their nutritional composition, and the data were fully documented. The nutrient content varied widely because of the nature and variety of the analysed foods. The energy content ranged between 4 kcal per 100 g for kvass southern and 900 kcal per 100 g for mustard oil, with the exception of the analysed teas, which did not contribute to energy intake. CONCLUSION: The use of a common methodology for the study of traditional foods will enable countries to further investigate these foods. Moreover, a new nutritional knowledge base of traditional foods from Black Sea Area countries will contribute to promote local biodiversity and sustainable diets by maintaining healthy dietary patterns within local cultures. c 2013 Society of Chemical Industry

21 May 2019TL;DR: The main result is that the problem of verifying the bith threshold separability is NP-complete and the same is true for neural networks consisting of computational bithreshold real-weighted neural-like units.
Abstract: We study the questions concerning the properties and capabilities of computational bithreshold real-weighted neural-like units. We give and justify the two sufficient conditions ensuring the possibility of separation of two sets in n-dimensional vector space by means of one bithreshold neuron. Our approach is based on application of convex and affine hulls of sets and is feasible in the case when one of the two sets is a compact and the second one is finite. We also correct and refine some previous results concerning bithreshold separability. Then the hardness of the learning bithreshold neurons is considered. We examine the complexity of the problem of checking whether the given Boolean function of n variables can be realizable by single bithreshold unit. Our main result is that the problem of verifying the bithreshold separability is NP-complete. The same is true for neural networks consisting of such computational units. We propose some continuous modifications of the bithreshold activation function to smooth away these difficulties and to make possible the application of modern paradigms and learning techniques for such networks.

TL;DR: The combined models of selective and hybrid types with indexation of time series for forecasting the level of air pollution in infocommunication systems for monitoring the state of the environment are developed.
Abstract: The combined models of selective and hybrid types with indexation of time series for forecasting the level of air pollution in infocommunication systems for monitoring the state of the environment are developed. Indexing in these models takes place on the basis of the nearest neighbor's method with selected metric distances. Described models allow to achieve a higher precision of short-term and medium-term forecasting compared to the models included in the base set of these combined models. Models and appropriate methods can be used in the development of info communication systems for monitoring the state of the environment and hardware-software complexes of general environmental monitoring.
