Combustion and emission behavior of N-propanol as partially alternative fuel in a direct injection spark ignition engine

TL;DR: In this article, the combustion and emissions of n-propanol/gasoline surrogates were studied, and the results showed that the blends with higher proportions of NPs lead to higher maximum in-cylinder pressure, higher incylinder mass averaged temperature, shorter flame development duration, and shorter rapid combustion duration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sooting tendencies of 20 bio-derived fuels for advanced spark-ignition engines

TL;DR: In this article, the soot tendencies of 20 bio-derived fuels suggested as potential blendstocks for spark-ignition engines by the Co-Optimization of Fuels & Engines (Co-Optima) Initiative are studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental investigation of reactivity controlled compression ignition with n-butanol/n-heptane in a heavy-duty diesel engine

TL;DR: In this article, double direct injection strategy was proposed to phase the combustion properly and obtain high gross indicated efficiency without sacrificing CO emissions too much, and the sensitivity of combustion phasing to the direct injection timing decreases as the load increases.
Journal ArticleDOI

A laminar flame investigation of 2-butanone, and the combustion-related intermediates formed through its oxidation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors quantitatively measured species profiles within a fuel-rich (ϕ = 1.6) laminar premixed flat flame of 2-butanone using electron ionization (EI) molecular-beam mass spectrometry (MBMS) and synchrotron-generated vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photoionization (PI) MBMS.

Biofuels (alcohols and biodiesel) applications as fuels for internal combustion engines

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the production, characterization and current statuses of vegetable oil and biodiesel as well as the experimental research work carried out in various countries is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanism and modeling of nitrogen chemistry in combustion

TL;DR: In this article, the mechanisms and rate parameters for the gas-phase reactions of nitrogen compounds that are applicable to combustion-generated air pollution are discussed and illustrated by comparison of results from detailed kinetics calculations with experimental data.
Journal ArticleDOI

Environmental, economic, and energetic costs and benefits of biodiesel and ethanol biofuels

TL;DR: Transportation biofuels such as synfuel hydrocarbons or cellulosic ethanol, if produced from low-input biomass grown on agriculturally marginal land or from waste biomass, could provide much greater supplies and environmental benefits than food-basedBiofuels.
