Biohydrogen production: prospects and limitations to practical application

TLDR
In this paper, the authors compare the hydrogen production rates of various bio-hydrogen systems by first standardizing the units of hydrogen production and then calculating the size of biohydrogen system that would be required to power proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells of various sizes.

Feasibility of biohydrogen production from sewage sludge using defined microbial consortium

TL;DR: The hydrogen yield from pretreated sludge obtained in this study has been found to be distinctively higher than the earlier reports and was lower compared to the yield obtained from co-digestion of food waste and sewage sludge.

A simulation on flow and mass transfer in a packed bed photobioreactor for hydrogen production

TL;DR: In this paper, a 3D lattice Boltzmann model is adopted to simulate the flow and mass transfer in a packed bed bioreactor for photo bio-hydrogen production, and the non-equilibrium extrapolation strategy is extended to the 3D curved boundary treatment for velocity and concentration.

Methane and hydrogen production from crop biomass through anaerobic digestion

TL;DR: In this article, the feasibility of hydrogen and methane production from energy crops through anaerobic digestion was evaluated in batch assays, and the effects of pre-treatments on methane and hydrogen yield as well as two-stage H2 + CH4 production was evaluated.

Flow patterns and optimization of compartments for the anaerobic baffled reactor

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the flow patterns of the anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) through the tracer pulse stimulus response technique and cold-model tests, and showed that the dead space decreases with the increase in the ABR compartments.

[FeFe]-hydrogenases as biocatalysts in bio-hydrogen production

TL;DR: [FeFe]-hydrogenases have been proven to be excellent catalysts in different in vitro devices that can produce hydrogen directly from water, either via water electrolysis or via light-driven mechanisms, thus allowing the direct storage of solar energy into H2.
