Biohydrogen production: prospects and limitations to practical application

TLDR
In this paper, the authors compare the hydrogen production rates of various bio-hydrogen systems by first standardizing the units of hydrogen production and then calculating the size of biohydrogen system that would be required to power proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells of various sizes.

Viability of ultrasonication of food waste for hydrogen production

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of ultrasonication as a pre-treatment method for pulp waste prior to anaerobic hydrogen production was studied and the results showed that hydrogen production increased with increasing sonication time.

Protein engineering of the transcriptional activator FhlA To enhance hydrogen production in Escherichia coli.

TL;DR: Through random mutagenesis using error-prone PCR over the whole gene and over the fhlA region encoding the first 388 amino acids of the 692-amino-acid protein, FhlA was evolved to increase H2 production through increasing transcription of all of the genes activated by FHLA (the FHL complex).

Distributed hydrogen production from ethanol in a microfuel processor: Issues and challenges

TL;DR: In this paper, the design challenges and issues related to various essential micro-devices, viz., the pre-heater, fuel reformer, water gas shift (WGS) reactor, carbon monoxide preferential oxidation (CO PrOX), required for efficient production of H 2 with very low concentration of CO contamination, are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative assessment of decoupling of biomass and hydraulic retention times in hydrogen production bioreactors

TL;DR: The inverse relationship between hydrogen yield and biomass yield observed in this study implies that the hydrogen yield is maximized with the minimization of biomass yield, thus necessitating decoupling of SRT from HRT to ensure sufficient reactor biomass.

Microbial bioelectrosynthesis of hydrogen: Current challenges and scale-up.

TL;DR: Factors that affect the performance of MECs are discussed and critically analysed, and the potential for scale-up of H2 bioelectrosynthesis is also discussed.
