Biohydrogen production: prospects and limitations to practical application

TLDR
In this paper, the authors compare the hydrogen production rates of various bio-hydrogen systems by first standardizing the units of hydrogen production and then calculating the size of biohydrogen system that would be required to power proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells of various sizes.

Growth and hydrogen production of outdoor cultures of Synechocystis PCC 6803

TL;DR: Chlorophyll fluorescence quenching analysis, coupled with measurements of photosynthesis and respiration rates, showed that photoinhibition strongly affected the performance of the culture grown at lowest biomass concentration, which led to the production of hydrogen in the dark.

Activation Barriers of Oxygen Transformation at the Active Site of [FeFe] Hydrogenases

TL;DR: The kinetics of possible reaction paths at the distal iron atom of the active site of [FeFe] hydrogenases are investigated by means of density functional theory and it is shown that proton transfer to activated oxygen is fast and thatProton supply to theactive site is vital to prevent ROS dissociation.

Co-fermentation of carbohydrates and proteins for biohydrogen production: Statistical optimization using Response Surface Methodology

TL;DR: In this paper, the co-fermentation of carbohydrates and proteins at different ratios (C1-C5) was explored and the results showed that there was a synergistic impact on hydrogen production and the optimum ratio that required no pH control occurred at C4 (80% carbohydrates+20% proteins) with a hydrogen yield of 350mL H2/gCOD added which was 38% higher than the expected, and the fermentation followed the acetate-ethanol pathway.
