Biohydrogen production: prospects and limitations to practical application

TLDR
In this paper, the authors compare the hydrogen production rates of various bio-hydrogen systems by first standardizing the units of hydrogen production and then calculating the size of biohydrogen system that would be required to power proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells of various sizes.

Feasibility study on fermentative conversion of raw and hydrolyzed starch to hydrogen using anaerobic mixed microflora

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of pH on H 2 -producing performance was examined for cultures converting raw starch or hydrolyzed starch into H 2. Response surface methodology was utilized to determine the best condition (41 ∘ C, pH 5.2, 2.1% (v/v) enzyme dosage, 27h reaction time) for starch hydrolysis with concentrated crude amylase obtained from Bacillus subtilis ATCC 21332.

Quantitative analysis of media dilution rate effects on Methanothermobacter marburgensis grown in continuous culture on H2 and CO2

TL;DR: Investigating the influence of liquid dilution rate and total gassing rate on the performance of Methanothermobacter marburgensis grown in continuous culture on H 2 /CO 2 demonstrated the usefulness of dynamic investigations in order to physiologically characterize hydrogenotrophic methanogens for its maximum specific methane productivity.

Thermophilic fermentative hydrogen production from xylose by Thermotoga neapolitana DSM 4359

TL;DR: The results showed that the production level of H2 from fermentation in a pH-controlled batch culture was much higher than those from a acidic batch culture for H2 production from xylose, which was nearly 1.2-fold higher than pH-uncontrolled batch cultures.

Application of Clostridium-specific PCR primers on the analysis of dark fermentation hydrogen-producing bacterial community

TL;DR: A specific PCR primer set, based on the available rRNA gene sequences from the database, targeting only the majority of Clusters I and II Clostridia was designed and tested and demonstrated that this new primer set could not only successfully distinguish the coexistedclostridium species but also revealed the existence of some Clostridgeium species in the sludge which could not be detected by using the universal primer set.
Journal ArticleDOI

Photo-bioproduction of hydrogen by Chlamydomonas reinhardtii using a semi-continuous process regime

TL;DR: In this article, a photo-bioproduction of hydrogen by using green algae, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, was investigated in batch and semi-continuous process regimes, in a continuous stirred type photobioreactor.
