Abstract
University of TorontoThe authors summarize 35 years of empirical research ongoal-setting theory. They describe the core findings of thetheory, the mechanisms by which goals operate, modera-tors of goal effects, the relation of goals and satisfaction, and the role of goals as mediators of incentives. Theexternal validity and practical significance of goal-settingtheory are explained, and new directions in goal-settingresearch are discussed. The relationships of goal setting toother theories are described as are the theory’s limitations.

Unanswered Questions about Public Service Motivation: Designing Research to Address Key Issues of Emergence and Effects

TL;DR: This article identified some fundamental public service motivation assumptions, including critical gaps in our current understanding of its basic tenets, and discussed specific research studies that, by virtue of their findings and designs, may fill in and inform such apparent gaps.

Lean manufacturing and firm performance: The incremental contribution of lean management accounting practices

TL;DR: In this paper, the extent of lean manufacturing implementation is associated with the use of lean management accounting practices, and further the lean MAP are related in a systematic way: simplified and strategically aligned MAP positively influences use of value stream costing, which in turn positively influences the using of visual performance measures.

Beginning with the application in mind: Designing and planning health behavior change interventions to enhance dissemination

TL;DR: A framework of reach, efficacy/effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance known as RE-AIM is described and how it can be used to plan and design studies with features that can strengthen the potential translation of interventions.

A meta-analysis and systematic literature review of virtual reality rehabilitation programs

TL;DR: The results demonstrate that VRR programs are more effective than traditional rehabilitation programs for physical outcome development and three mechanisms have been proposed to cause these improved outcomes: excitement, physical fidelity, and cognitive fidelity.

Self-Efficacy: The Exercise of Control

TL;DR: SelfSelf-Efficacy (SE) as discussed by the authors is a well-known concept in human behavior, which is defined as "belief in one's capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action required to produce given attainments".

Prospect theory: an analysis of decision under risk

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a critique of expected utility theory as a descriptive model of decision making under risk, and develop an alternative model, called prospect theory, in which value is assigned to gains and losses rather than to final assets and in which probabilities are replaced by decision weights.

Social Foundations of Thought and Action: A Social Cognitive Theory

TL;DR: In this paper, models of Human Nature and Casualty are used to model human nature and human health, and a set of self-regulatory mechanisms are proposed. But they do not consider the role of cognitive regulators.
