TLDR
This paper developed and validated short, self-report scales of work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) using conceptualizations consistent with the current literature.
Abstract
Researchers report on a 3-sample study that developed and validated short, self-report scales of work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC). Using conceptualizations consistent with the current literature, the researchers offer content domains and definitions of the constructs. Advocated procedures were used to develop the scales and test dimensionality and internal consistency. Estimates of construct validity are presented by relating the scales to 16 other on- and off-job constructs. Mean-level difference tests between WFC and FWC also provide evidence of validity.

Stress in New Zealand farmers

TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional study of stress in a stratified, random sample of New Zealand farmers (n = 1015) was conducted and the most stressful events were "increased work load at peak times", "dealing with workers' compensation", "bad weather", and "complying with health and safety legislation".

The Spillover Effects of Coworker, Supervisor, and Outsider Workplace Incivility on Work‐to‐Family Conflict: A Weekly Diary Design

TL;DR: This paper used an experience sampling design to examine the spillover effects of experienced workplace incivility from organizational insiders (coworkers and supervisors, respectively) and organizational outsiders (patients and their visitors) on targets' work-to-family conflict and to test the mediating effect of burnout and the moderated effect of display rules.

Predictors of burnout among correctional mental health professionals.

TL;DR: This study focused on the experience of burnout among a sample of correctional mental health professionals and examined the relationship of a linear combination of optimism, work family conflict, and attitudes toward prisoners with two dimensions derived from the Maslach Burnout Inventory and the Professional Quality of Life Scale.

Examining the influence of climate, supervisor guidance, and behavioral integrity on work–family conflict: A demands and resources approach

TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess a multilevel approach to work interference with family (WIF) by examining the influence of unit-level work-family climate, as well as the importance of supervisors' spoken guidance and their behavioral integrity in helping employees process social information about work and family issues.

Perceived Organizational Support Impacts on the Associations of Work-Family Conflict or Family-Work Conflict with Depressive Symptoms among Chinese Doctors

TL;DR: This study investigated the relationships between work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) with depressive symptoms among Chinese doctors and the role of perceived organizational support (POS) in this association was explored at an organizational level.

Evaluating Structural Equation Models with Unobservable Variables and Measurement Error

TL;DR: In this paper, the statistical tests used in the analysis of structural equation models with unobservable variables and measurement error are examined, and a drawback of the commonly applied chi square test, in additit...

Structural equation modeling in practice: a review and recommended two-step approach

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide guidance for substantive researchers on the use of structural equation modeling in practice for theory testing and development, and present a comprehensive, two-step modeling approach that employs a series of nested models and sequential chi-square difference tests.

Comparative fit indexes in structural models

TL;DR: A new coefficient is proposed to summarize the relative reduction in the noncentrality parameters of two nested models and two estimators of the coefficient yield new normed (CFI) and nonnormed (FI) fit indexes.

On the evaluation of structural equation models

TL;DR: In this article, structural equation models with latent variables are defined, critiqued, and illustrated, and an overall program for model evaluation is proposed based upon an interpretation of converging and diverging evidence.
