TLDR
This paper developed and validated short, self-report scales of work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) using conceptualizations consistent with the current literature.
Abstract
Researchers report on a 3-sample study that developed and validated short, self-report scales of work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC). Using conceptualizations consistent with the current literature, the researchers offer content domains and definitions of the constructs. Advocated procedures were used to develop the scales and test dimensionality and internal consistency. Estimates of construct validity are presented by relating the scales to 16 other on- and off-job constructs. Mean-level difference tests between WFC and FWC also provide evidence of validity.

Clarifying relationships among work and family social support, stressors, and work-family conflict

TL;DR: This article used path analysis on meta-analytically derived validity coefficients (528 effect sizes from 156 samples) to compare three models to address these concerns and clarify relationships, finding that social support is best viewed as an antecedent of role stressors and subsequent work-family conflict.

It's the nature of the work: examining behavior-based sources of work-family conflict across occupations.

TL;DR: Results from multilevel analysis indicate that significant variance in work-family conflict is attributable to the occupation in which someone works, and interdependence and responsibility for others predict work- family conflict, even after controlling for several time- and strain-based sources.

Antecedents of perceived coach interpersonal behaviors: the coaching environment and coach psychological well- and ill-being.

TL;DR: Structural equation modeling revealed that greater job security and opportunities for professional development, and lower work-life conflict were associated with psychological need satisfaction, which was related to an adaptive process of psychological well-being and perceived autonomy support toward athletes.

Methodological choices in work-life balance research 1987 to 2006: a critical review

TL;DR: This article reviewed methodological choices (sampling frames, constructs investigated and measures used) in 245 empirical work-life balance papers published in a range of discipline-based peer-reviewed journals between 1987 and 2006.

Antecedents and outcomes of a fourfold taxonomy of work-family balance in Chinese employed parents.

TL;DR: The study provided validity evidence for a fourfold taxonomy of work-family balance that comprises direction of influence (work to family vs. family to work) and types of effect (work-family conflict vs. work- family facilitation).

Evaluating Structural Equation Models with Unobservable Variables and Measurement Error

TL;DR: In this paper, the statistical tests used in the analysis of structural equation models with unobservable variables and measurement error are examined, and a drawback of the commonly applied chi square test, in additit...

Structural equation modeling in practice: a review and recommended two-step approach

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide guidance for substantive researchers on the use of structural equation modeling in practice for theory testing and development, and present a comprehensive, two-step modeling approach that employs a series of nested models and sequential chi-square difference tests.

Applied multiple regression/correlation analysis for the behavioral sciences

TL;DR: In this article, the Mathematical Basis for Multiple Regression/Correlation and Identification of the Inverse Matrix Elements is presented. But it does not address the problem of missing data.

Comparative fit indexes in structural models

TL;DR: A new coefficient is proposed to summarize the relative reduction in the noncentrality parameters of two nested models and two estimators of the coefficient yield new normed (CFI) and nonnormed (FI) fit indexes.

On the evaluation of structural equation models

TL;DR: In this article, structural equation models with latent variables are defined, critiqued, and illustrated, and an overall program for model evaluation is proposed based upon an interpretation of converging and diverging evidence.
