TLDR
This paper developed and validated short, self-report scales of work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) using conceptualizations consistent with the current literature.
Abstract
Researchers report on a 3-sample study that developed and validated short, self-report scales of work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC). Using conceptualizations consistent with the current literature, the researchers offer content domains and definitions of the constructs. Advocated procedures were used to develop the scales and test dimensionality and internal consistency. Estimates of construct validity are presented by relating the scales to 16 other on- and off-job constructs. Mean-level difference tests between WFC and FWC also provide evidence of validity.

Toward reducing some critical gaps in work–family research

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assess the gaps in our knowledge of work-family relationships and conclude that there are many more unanswered questions than those for which we have "firm footholds".

Changing Workplaces to Reduce Work-Family Conflict: Schedule Control in A White-Collar Organization

TL;DR: This study points to the importance of schedule control for the understanding of job quality and for management policies and practices, primarily by increasing employees’ schedule control.

When can employees have a family life? The effects of daily workload and affect on work-family conflict and social behaviors at home.

TL;DR: The most interesting finding in this study was that employees' behaviors in the family domain (reported by spouses) were predicted by the employees' perceptions of work-to-family conflict and their positive affect at home.

Conflicts in the Work-Family Interface: Links to Job Stress, Customer Service Employee Performance, and Customer Purchase Intent

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine the potential chain of effects from customer service employee work-family conflict and family-work conflict, to job stress and job performance, to customer purchase intent (CPI), and find that job stress has a more pronounced effect on IRP than on CDERP.

Bridging the work-family policy and productivity gap: A literature review

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the relationship between work-family conflict and six work outcomes: performance, turnover, absenteeism, organizational commitment, job involvement, and burnout.

Structural equation modeling in practice: a review and recommended two-step approach

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide guidance for substantive researchers on the use of structural equation modeling in practice for theory testing and development, and present a comprehensive, two-step modeling approach that employs a series of nested models and sequential chi-square difference tests.

On the evaluation of structural equation models

TL;DR: In this article, structural equation models with latent variables are defined, critiqued, and illustrated, and an overall program for model evaluation is proposed based upon an interpretation of converging and diverging evidence.
