Abstract
We report the experimental discovery of intrinsic ferromagnetism in Cr 2 Ge 2 Te 6 atomic layers by scanning magneto-optic Kerr microscopy. In this 2D van der Waals ferromagnet, unprecedented control of transition temperature is realized via small magnetic fields.

Surface-Engineered MXenes: Electric Field Control of Magnetism and Enhanced Magnetic Anisotropy

TL;DR: It is predicted that transition metal carbide and nitride MXenes are promising candidates for controllable magnetic 2D materials and a strategy for exploiting asymmetric surface functionalization to achieve room-temperature nanoscale magnetism under ambient conditions in MXenes is provided.

The rise of graphene

TL;DR: Owing to its unusual electronic spectrum, graphene has led to the emergence of a new paradigm of 'relativistic' condensed-matter physics, where quantum relativistic phenomena can now be mimicked and tested in table-top experiments.

QUANTUM ESPRESSO: a modular and open-source software project for quantum simulations of materials

TL;DR: QUANTUM ESPRESSO as discussed by the authors is an integrated suite of computer codes for electronic-structure calculations and materials modeling, based on density functional theory, plane waves, and pseudopotentials (norm-conserving, ultrasoft, and projector-augmented wave).

Absence of Ferromagnetism or Antiferromagnetism in One- or Two-Dimensional Isotropic Heisenberg Models

TL;DR: In this paper, it is rigorously proved that at any nonzero temperature, a one- or two-dimensional isotropic spin-S$ Heisenberg model with finite-range exchange interaction can be neither ferromagnetic nor antiferromagnetic.

Half-metallic graphene nanoribbons

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that if in-plane homogeneous electric fields are applied across the zigzag-shaped edges of the graphene nanoribbons, their magnetic properties can be controlled by the external electric fields.
