Journal ArticleDOI

Nonlinear mechanics of hybrid polymer networks that mimic the complex mechanical environment of cells

TL;DR: It is shown that hybrid networks of a synthetic mimic of biological networks and either stiff, flexible and semi-flexible components, even very low concentrations of these added components, strongly affect the network stiffness and/or its strain-responsive character.

Mechanical Characterization of Amyloid Fibrils Using Coarse-Grained Normal Mode Analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the structural properties of human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) with respect to its structural hierarchies and structural shapes by coarse-grained normal mode analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Force induced DNA melting.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the DNA overstretching and unzipping transition using fully atomistic molecular dynamics simulations and argued that the conformational changes of double-strand DNA associated with either of the above mentioned processes can be viewed as force induced DNA melting.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pretransition and progressive softening of bovine carbonic anhydrase II as probed by single molecule atomic force microscopy

TL;DR: The force curve mode of an AFM was shown to be sensitive enough to provide information concerning the different physical states of single molecules of globular proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

DNA-Protein Cooperative Binding through Variable-Range Elastic Coupling

TL;DR: A simple mechanism for cooperativity, in the form of a tension-mediated interaction between proteins bound to DNA at two different locations, is proposed and properties of the cooperative interaction are discussed, along with experimental implications.

Direct mechanical measurements of the elasticity of single DNA molecules by using magnetic beads

TL;DR: Deviations from the force curves predicted by the freely jointed chain model suggest that DNA has significant local curvature in solution, and the effect of bend-inducing cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II) was large and supports the hypothesis of natural curvatures in DNA.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of the method of phage T4 DNA ligase-catalyzed ring-closure to the study of DNA structure. II. NaCl-dependence of DNA flexibility and helical repeat.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that it is possible to determine the molar cyclization factor jM from single ligation reactions in which both circular and linear dimer DNA species are formed concurrently from linear monomers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polymer conformational statistics. III. Modified Gaussian models of stiff chains

M. Fixman, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a modified Gaussian probability for intrachain distances was used to account for polymer chain stiffness or excluded volume effects in non-Newtonian viscosity theory.
